Since it seems they're going to continue with the DA2 look, I'm hoping they'll move more in the direction of the original concept art. Especially the lidless, red eyes and gaping maw...

I'm okay with the spiky armor, I more like the idea that darkspawn armor is crudely designed.

I quite liked some of the darkspawn in the dlc. I'm struggling to remember but I think there were several, mainly Genlocks, that weren't in the main game? I didn't like the basic Hurlocks at the start of DA2 at all.

I found it unfortunate that the interesting concept for DA2 darkspawn wasn't executed as imagined. I liked the idea, but it was just never realized in the game. So I'm hoping that they will use the same idea, but be able to implement it fully with the new engine.

Matt said (in roundabout fashion) that the DA2 hurlocks turned out like ass. We know it, and they know it.

 

Hopefully they plan to improve upon the implementation of their design.

 

I don't think it's at all likely they plan to revert to the original designs. But I do hope for improvements, especially the hurlocks and emissaries (actually, the latter demands a complete redesign, but I don't really expect one). The ogres need a better face, but I wasn't bothered by the rest of the model. The genlocks and the two alphas actually turned out really well (the hurlock alpha was possibly a bit too derivative, but I still think it worked).

 

Assuming the darkspawn show up at all, of course. There's lots of other stuff going on in the world.
