Something similar to Grunts and Brutes from Amnesia: The Dark Descent would be awesome. Those were pretty scary.
Any word on if they are going back to DAO darkspawn or sticking with DA2 darkspawn

The Genlock in Origins looked more like dwarves than those in Legacy, which looked like dwarf Hulks or even Brontos.
While I prefer the more... gritty and 'gory' look of the Darkspawn in Origins (they really looked like things coming out of Broodmothers), I didn't really mind the change in 2 that much (though they didn't look like they spawned out of Broodmothers). That being said though, I'd like them to make the darkspawn look a little more varied and broodmother-spawn-looking than in 2. Plus, more Genlocks please. And make them more like the ones in Origins, instead of charging brontos.
No. Darkspawn are not those races. They spawn from Broodmothers. Broodmothers were of those species before. They spawn either hurlocks, genlocks, shrieks or Ogres based on their DNA, I can only assume. You make it sound like Broodmothers take, for example, a dwarf and turn that into a Genlock.
So the broodmother, which used to be an elf, a human, or a qunari craps out something that looks NOTHING like an elf, a human, or a qunari, and that's better?
Or should the elf broodmother crap out darkspawn that still resemble elves? The qunari broodmother crap out darkspawn that still resemble qunari? The dwarf broodmother crap out darkspawn that still resemble dwarves?
If you take a dog and breed it with a wolf, the pup still resembles a dog and a wolf. It doesn't crap out a zebra because "ermahgerd, everything has to be Tolkein!"

I don't know how they would, but yes. I can only imagine the creepiness of them with the new engine.
I actually think the Darkspawn plot would be a lot more interesting if they don't show up in dragon age:I too much except on a few occasions where they do stuff that you wouldn't consider a darkspawn to be doing, ideally hinting at another archdemon or some form of higher leader to these darkspawn. Then they could revisit the awakened and have more of these intelligent darkspawn which I must say I completely love.

But what if you killed them all in Awakening?

Well, Corypheus is free and an Original Darkspawn, so perhaps he has some Darkspawn building a faction around him since he can mimic the Archdemon call.
And yeah, I loved the Awakened Darkspawn.

Regardless of if you kill the Architect or not, some Awakened Darkspawn retreat into the Deep Roads.

You don't get TheLittleBird's point. You claimed that darskpawn were once human, dwarves, etc. TLB corrected you and stated that darskpawn are simply offsprings of mutated humans, dwarves, etc. He/She never said that they should look as in DAO in that post. It wasn't his/her point. So the broodmother, which used to be an elf, a human, or a qunari craps out something that looks NOTHING like an elf, a human, or a qunari, and that's better?

It's annoying because I feel for the messenger , but he dies as a consequence of going to save the keep. I would think they would make very interesting characters as I could see them being morally good, but very misunderstood and untrusted by the vast majority of people. Bioware should explore this. http://dragonage.wik...ger_(Awakening)

I save Amarathine over the Keep since I had it fully upgraded so it survives, but yeah I would like the Messenger to appear. Perhaps as an Agent for the Inquisition or something, since I don't think the Awakened Darkspawn would want the demons in our world any more than we do.

I still get the 'Tolkien'-feeling you describe from Darkspawn in Da ][.
What I meant was that Darkspawn looked kind of "clean" to me in 2. But maybe that's just me, I don't know.
A Kossith broodmother 'craps' out the large powerhouse that is slower but stronger.
A dwarven broodmother 'craps' out the smaller genlock that is generally more resistant to magic and larger in numbers (because the Dwarves get in touch with the darkspawn far more often)
An elven broodmother 'craps' out the agile, swift and fast fighter.
A human broodmother 'craps' out the human-sized warrior.
----------
Why do you think the darkspawn use other races for these Broodmothers? Because they think elves look pretty and want their looks? By the way, the darkspawn don't have to look like the species their broodmother originates from at all.
Still, I never said I want them to look like those in Origins. I just pointed out darkspawn never were dwarves, elves, human or Kossith.

To be honest though, I will take any Grey Warden or Darkspawn lore they will throw at us in dragon age:I I just find it a lot more interesting then any of the other lore or the dragon age universe. I personally wouldn't even mind another blight (Obvious it would have to be different). BIOWARE MAKE ME A AWAKENED COMPANION :'(

Well, there seems to at least be Grey Warden involvement, and you can't have Wardens without Darkspawn, so something could happen.

Yeah Grey Wardens have always been the most interesting faction to me.
I wouldn't mind it if a future Dragon Age (after Inquisition, that is) would focus on the Grey Wardens again,e specially since they've clearly been up to something since the end of Origins. It would be cool to have them be the main focus of the game, maybe as antagonists? We'd be definitely going to the Anderfels then, what with Weisshaupt being there and all.

Grey warden antagonists.. hmmm.... YES! It would seem slightly cheesy as theres a lot of 'extremists' in Dragon age 2 imo, but Grey warden extremists could work?

If BioWare would do that (which I want them to now), griffons should return for the Grey Wardens. Not in huge amounts, but that would be great nonetheless.

As for Darkspawn, I didn't mind their DA2 appearance but I definitely preferred how they looked in DAO. Hopefully they look like more of the latter while borrowing some better aspects of the former.

I liiked the pale skin tone in DA2 - made sense for something that is a subterrainian digger thing. I HATED the armor design from DA2 - well not just for the darkspawn but especially them I kept thinking that armor looked like pre-alpha build/sample textures. Slap the DAO "clothes" on a DA2 skin and I think I am ok.

I liked where DA2 was heading with them so I hope they stick with that.

I also wasn't a huge fan of the genlock redesign. They're supposedly the most numerous of the darkspawn, but in DA2 they became almost mini-bosses unto themselves.

I really hope that the artist at Bioware stick to whatever they feel like and not listen to any forum as to how they should represent their created world.
With that said, Darkspawn appearances in Origins were horribly uncreative. They basically were <insert generic monster here>. Sans the Ogres.

I liked that DA:O darkspawn actually looked "corrupted", "tainted". DA2 darkspawn look a bit sickly, but they don't strike me as abominations against nature the same way DA:O darkspawn did. What I had a bigger problem with was their armor. It looked too finely made and uniform, not like it was cobbled together. DA:O did a better job communicating that idea even though they were uniformly attired.
I also wasn't a huge fan of the genlock redesign. They're supposedly the most numerous of the darkspawn, but in DA2 they became almost mini-bosses unto themselves.
To me DA2 darkspawn looked more like twisted and corrupted versions of each race, rather then being creatures I would never have assumed were spawned from a former dwarf, elf, human, or qunari, especially where shrieks and genloks were concerned. It wasn't very well done at conveying the corruption aspect of them and just made them seem like a bunch of aliens or mordor baddies come from another dimension to invade thedas.
Their armor in DAO was better, but that is all I can really say about DAO's darkspawn. And when that is the case I have to say, it fails as an actual faction.

I'm sorry but I will NEVER like Gorilla Darkspawn

They looked cartoony and were difficult to take seriously. They need a compromise....or some sort of middle ground because there was nothing imposing about this darkspawn.

Better then goblin midget mages.
Genlocks were small for a reason. They come from dwarf broodmothers.
