Any word on if they are going back to DAO darkspawn or sticking with DA2 darkspawn

Genlocks were small for a reason. They come from dwarf broodmothers.

Dwarves are short, but still bulky. DAO genlocks were only one of those. DA2 genlocks might be slightly too large, but I do like how they retain a muscular, somewhat swollen physique (different from the shriveled hurlocks, but still speaking of corruption), as opposed to genlocks and hurlocks just being shorter/taller versions of the same being.

Nah, i prefer DA2's genlock design over Origins' as the latter looked generic to me. + points for DA2's looking like gorillas.

I know TEWR agrees.

Being bulky and muscular is fine. They shouldn't be larger than hurlocks though.

Darkspawn variants are perversions of their original races. The average genlocks in Legacy weren't that big, and the alphas should be bigger and stronger.

DA2's gorillas are preferable to DAO's baby hurlocks for me.

Why should that matter when everything else about them isn't dwarfish? They're green skinned, pointy eared, they can use magic, they might as well have been elf darkspawn for how close they were to actual dwarfs if we're just using height as a requirement, since the damn shrieks were taller then even the humans.

Genlocks and shrieks were both terrible in da:o, while hurlocks, ogres, and broodmothers were awesome.  DA2 crapped on both of those, but the legacy DLC made genlocks awesome and gave unique models for alphas which were all good.    Bring back da:o style hurlocks and ogres, and decent redesign on shrieks and we will have one of the best monster races ever designed…just to be seldomly, if at all used because darkspawn are pretty irrelevant now.

Perhaps a mix between DAO and DA2 would suffice. I only hope there will be some subtle differences.

How about no darkspawn?

Seriously, we got invading demons, the possibilities for creepy eldritch abomination is immense. Why would you want Darkspawn (again)?

We already had an entire game about them, an entire expansion pack about evolved darkspawn and a third of the second game devoted to it (and 1/2 DLC packs too).

You don't play as a Warden and the last blight was 12 years ago. If there were any darkspawn they should appear only on (the hopefully very rare/non-existant) deep roads segments.

I'm sorry, but are we really trying to pass off DA:O Darkspawn as not being goofy?

I don't like the DA2 Darkspawn either, but pretending the DA:O ones were better is silly, just look at the picture above. They look hilarious.

That's your opinion, you shouldn't assume that it's everyone's. Goofy is the last word I'd use to describe them. Don't get me wrong, darkspawn could be done a lot better, but da2 made da:o look fantastic in my opinion.

Darkspawn move around blighted lands as well. Without spoiling Asunder, the group in that book encounters darkspawn on the surface.

Darkspawn are also a big part of the DA franchise and have a connection to the Fade, Old Gods, and possibly even lyrium the way they hear music. We're probably going to see them during Inquisition and that's a good thing in my book. We need variety in what enemies we encounter.

I'll also point out that DA2 had us fighting a ridiculous amount of demons. It seemed like at least half of the battles were shades + undead or rage demons.

I'd be perfectly fine with a mixed between DAO and DA2, especially for the Genlocks

This. No going back to DAO putty patrolers or skeletor knock offs of DA2.

Improve them.

New engine, new models, new everything. So i doubt any of the darkspawn will look like the ones from Origins or 2

the_children-01-525x376.jpgThese need to make a return, they were truly fantastic.

I agree. I would love to see them again.

Please BioWare? For the Children.

I for one like the DA2 Darkspawn more than their Origins counterparts. I do hope Shrieks make a comeback, they were awesome.

With the exception of the Ogres, I think the DA2 darkspawn are an improvement. That said, I don't think the Hurlocks (which make up the bulk of the darkspawn in both games) have ever really looked as good as they should.

What's wrong with DA2's Darkspawn?

Looks quite ferocious to me.

Looks better than the vanilla Darkspawn did in DA 2.

I am curious to see what the Children would look like if they were to be included in the updated Darkspawn designs.

My ideal Darkspawn would be a combination of DAO and DA2. I thought the DAO DS were more scary (though a little generic Tolkien-Orc) but the DA2 Darkspawn we're more in line with the backstory (ie they are the offspring of women who used to be human/dwarf/elf/Kossith) So if they could pick a happy medium, that would be great.

And I would kill to get the Messanger to be a companion in DA:I.

I agree, especially about the Messenger being an ally.

A companion might be out of the question considering how far along everything is (plot/narrative-wise), but having the Awakened as an Agent; should you have spared him; would be most welcome.

Personally I hope they go with DAO darkspawn with a few changes. Darkspawn in DAO looked much more monstrous and disease ridden while DA2 Darkspawn looked kind of bland in my opinion.

I hope they change shrieks though. What made grenlocks and hurlocks so disturbing was that you could still see some human/dwarf in them (in fact I think they need to look more like humans and dwarfs in DAI) with shrieks there wasn't any elf at all in them.

I don't even care about character design anymore,I just want Shrieks back. And the creepy Hurlock laughter if you pressed pause during a battle

Although I do find every 'race'(?) better and creepier looking in DAO
