ME1 had the female walk or strut whatever you wanna call the best I reckon. Dont know what happened with ME2 & 3 though.
Dragon Age games were no better as well. In DA:O, the characters looked like they were holding a fart and was just waiting for the first person to let it go. DA2 was just way too exaggerated with that sway which I'm pretty sure was intentional.
They should just look back at ME1 and see how it was done... if that is possible or necessary.

I'd almost forgot the first Mass Effect was less of an animation eye sore. Then again that was a Mass Effect where your singularities picked up things in the environment, and moved them around, not just the enemies - a game where you could biotic push objects into enemies even. I suppose regardless of the game in question, I still maintain that animations should be well handled, and unique the male/female models, made for them and made well. Not just well but appropriate to what the character is supposed to be, and what they're going to be doing.

I'm gonna weigh in on this one.

I actually posted something about this long in the past.  Maybe in someone else's thread, maybe in my own.

I get that they wanted to set Ladyhawke and ManHawke apart in the animation department, but the ladies were doing the Baywatch beach run.  I've never seen anyone in real life run that way.  Since my Hawke spent most of the time running (I wish I could run constantly like an RPG character, it would save SO much time and I'd be in fantastic shape, too), the run is what I remember and I don't remember the walk.  But I do know that there was way too much butt-swagger in the run.  It was embarrassingly exaggerated, and yes, as some others have suggested, I think it had more to do with "sexifying" the female characters for straight male enjoyment than anything else.  I certainly don't wag my butt alluringly from side to side when I run.  I'm too busy focusing on, you know, running, to worry about how sexy my backside looks.  Hawke being in urgent situations, you'd think she'd focus less on that, too.  And yes, it does look painful, because that run would twist your spine like whoah!

I notice if people are walking "strangely" and the hip-swagger during a walk or run being exaggerated isn't normal.  Some people do it, but most of the people I've seen in my life haven't.  Again, I would notice because it's unusual.  Maybe that's a regional thing, and maybe there are places where that kind of walk/run are normal.  However, if they exist, I haven't ever been there or seen these people.

I can't speak for the walk in DA2 so much, since it's been a long time since I played DA2.  I do know that the run animation was one of the reasons I didn't feel as inclined to replay DA2 as I might have been.  Normally I don't even notice what my character's behind is doing, male or female--I'm looking off around the environment.  But the character's rear end is also not usually emphasized by excessive motion, either.  Animation done that poorly does attract notice, and, at least in my case, not in a good way. I'd compare DA2's female animations with Divinity 2 Ego Draconis--in which basically the ONLY thing that changed if you were female was the animation.  But the two games have similar female animation, and it looks similarly ridiculous to me.

Do I want them to bring back DAO animations?  No, those were a bit too stiff.  Do I want them to make everyone walk like Commander Shepard?  Again, no.  But I also don't want Baywatch:  Thedas Edition.

Bioware typically does a better job, and I'm hoping that they tone down the butt swagger in DA:I--it doesn't have to be totally removed, but the way it was in DA2 was way overstated to the point of the ridiculous.

Is it just me or does Cassandra have a massive butt wiggle (and arm flailing) when running in the latest demo???  :(

I think that was Vivienne without her hat. Either way, I'm fine with it.

She's carrying a shield...

This game should not be about titillating male players.  :(

Assuming all male players like swaying hips.

BioWare assumes they do, apparently.

You're right, that IS Cassandra. Sorry, I didn't see the shield at first.

Yeah, the game shouldn't be about titillating ANYONE. If BioWare wanted to titillate us, then Cassandra wouldn't be wearing heavy armor.

I'm just saying that whatever walking animation BioWare chooses is fine with me.

Anyway, looking at earlier demo and the latest video I think that we can conclude that the model strut is indeed coming back, and the evidence is there for everyone to see.

Thus the strut lovers should rejoice and those of us who don't like it will have to wait for the appropriate mods to fix this issue.

Now I only hope that the mods will be able to mod this issue. After all, Frostbite 3 is not mod friendly  :(

Sad that they're bringing back that animation. Really thought they wouldn't do that again.

Guess I'll just not play a female character. Again.  <_<

unless the Quizzy doesn't flail her hips

Nah, it shouldn't be hard to do. You just need to make female models look for movement scripts in the male section.

Lol, I am in between these 2 evils:

1) I stopped playing male characters when bioware started to make voiced games, because I never like the voice.

2) And now female characters have a strut.

I dunno what to do. :(

Can I play a nug?

People complained the Warden wasn't feminine enough, now they complain that she is. I don't care.

Some complained and some didn't. Now those that complained don't and those that didn't do.

It's bologna. 99% of the female population does not run like that. I don't understand why they have to do this. Fine, give it to Isabela, give it to Vivienne. But Cassandra? She looks ridiculous! *sighs*

Whatever happened to unique animations for each respective companion?

That strut was painful to watch. And it doesn't suit Cass at all.
