I wasn't too keen on DA2's walk but it didn't bother me that much. The run I didn't really like. I think the problem was that it was too noticeable a movement to simply ignore.
Not to be ungrateful, because I loved that females were given their own set of animations, I just would prefer to see something a little less obvious so it doesn't distract or irritate those who aren't so fond of it.

The DAII FemHawke walk/ run didn't really bother me that much but it was unrealistic. Like others, I like the Skyrim and Tomb Raider animations because they're much more believable. I also think that the animations for the courtesan from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer are good too. They're feminine but realistic.

But not every woman is feminine. And not every player wants to play a feminine female inquisitor. It really does inhibit role-playing.

Bioware, please keep the strut. It was one of the few things I enjoyed in DA 2.

The only people I know who strut in everyday life are the drag queens at my friend's club.

And only in high heels.

I like how a game like Saints Row provides the option to choose your own - One can only dream. Anything is better than the animations of Origins & Mass Effect. Heck, I like the one's in GTA Online for females.

A number of things in Inquisition are going to inhibit role-playing, but it's the nature of videogames. It's not a pen & paper RPG with limitless possibilities. BioWare doesn't have infinite resources or infinite time.

I agree with what you're saying, but they're simply cannot account for every wish and/or desire.

Make it the same! Strut or not, just make everybody walk/run the same. It will take even less resources.

I'll take everything back I said about the model strut, if I can make a male Qunari Warrior strut that fabulously.

I sincerely hope that it shall not return. It looked silly. The running and idle animations were even worse. That lumbering combat run was pretty bad in Origins, yeah, but at least it was equally bad for both male and female characters.

People all move somewhat differently. This is one of those things were it would be nice to have some different options, but as there is only one animation for each, I really think it should be a neutral one (and that goes for the male character too, of course). Neutral does not involve arm-flailing and swaying.

The only purely physiological difference between the way men and women walk is in the hip attachment, and that still varies in how pronounced a difference it is from individual to individual. Between some people, it is not really noticable. It also, I would think (although I am not an animator, so I could be wrong) would be taken care of by the body mesh rather than the animations. Anything more than that is not a neutral difference, it is a mannerism. I prefer not to have mannerisms assigned to my character for me whenever possible, particularly ones that are so incredibly unlikely to fit the idea I have of the character as arm-flailing and putting one foot all the way in front of the other while walking.

If the female character at least moves in a way such that she retains balance and doesn't look like anyone who walked up and tapped her would push her over instantly, I'll be okay with it. If that's not the case, and it most certainly was not in DA II, I'll be looking to animation mods before I start playing much.

I also like the change in the running department. Not so much the walk animation though. Still looking like she just jumped off a horse and seemingly carrying two heavy, but invisible, buckets of water. The fact that the walk is so masculine compared to the run is what bothers me.

I also thought the Warden's animation was way too masculine. So I say yes, to the bouncing and swaying of hips but now follow it through with other animations as well.

How was the Warden's walk 'masculine'? How is any walk 'masculine'?

All females don't flail their hips like dying fish when they walk.

I apologize if this came off as rude; I'm just tired of people calling the Warden's walk a manly-dude walk.

I also find this weird since I thought the F!Warden also had a girly walk/run. When she runs, I seem to recall her hands flailing and flopping a bit limp-wristed-ly. Whatever the case, it was distracting and in no way would I be able to associate with that character. Never made it far with a F!Warden though to be honest. I liked my DN but she (as did all dwarves) kinda had gorilla-sized arms

Because they keep their arms out from their bodies, which to me seems rather masculine. And their knees are slightly bended outwards which just looks plain weird. But I actually meant in cutscenes, though I see I forgot to mention that. Both female Hawke and female Warden do this when approaching someone in a cutscene.

Furthermore, it is my personal preference to have everything as girly as possible. So if more hip-swaying were to happen, bring it on.

I'd personally be absolutely fine with that. Would certainly prefer it to the strut or whatever FemShep was doing in ME3.

No it can actually be a strut, but then make everybody strut. I just like equality.

but how does a normal person walk? Like I said before, what's normal to you, may not be to me.

I've been told I walk like Frankenstein before for example.

I liked the strut... :crying:

I also wouldn't mind if it disappeared, though.

What I really want is for the different races to have different walking/running animations. (Like, consider the fact that Qunari generally have more mass and will therefore not look as light on their feet as elves, for example.)

Or better yet, give us a choice. Let us choose a running style for our Inquisitor in the CC. (And yes, this wish is mostly fueled by my desire to play a male Qunari Inquisitor with a strut that would make every model in the world envious. Oh yeah, let him swing them hips.)

They should just make a few different walk/run animations for each gender to choose from CC. Small things like these really enhance roleplay and in my opinion are important. Bioware, just do it.
