How did Cassandra or Vivienne move in the demo ? I can't remember that would be a good indication to the female walk/ run.
You know, they actually both had a different walk. Vivienne had a lot of hips swaying, while Cassandra didn't.

Right. So imagine that every 15 seconds there is an animation of your PC picking their nose intensely. Would you consider that to be minor?

Who knows, maybe we'll get some kind of choice in the CC. I don't have many hopes in this regard though.

It suited my pro-Mage rogue, but it felt just wrong on my pro-Templar warrior. She was a templar spec and for extra RP credits, I downloaded a mod that gave me Templar armor. Yet she still strutted around like that. I thought the way Meredith walked was great. She had purpose and determination in her step. She didn't have to sashay all over town.
It's a really minor nitpick for me though. I'm more worried about the battle animations being fluid versus the way my character runs.
That's fair. It's not something that I would rank in importance above more interesting things like facial customisation, etc. But that walk in particular contains a lot of character, and is probably more suited to a specific character like Isabela. Not the protagonist in a game which is supposed to be an RPG. I just believe in an RPG they should aim for a more average looking walk, and leave the character defining aspects to the player to determine through dialogue, clothing, etc.

Someone linked this the other day (sorry, I forget who). Male Hawke with fem Hawke animations.
I found the fem Hawke animations pretty disappointing. It didn't fit the character I wanted to play.
I remember first spotting that video on Tumblr, and all I can think was "Hawke, you sassy mofo."
I didn't really have any problem with the walking animation, though running is definitely weird, but the one that bugged me the most was actually the idle stance. I guess it wasn't enough to simply stand straight. The only exceptions I can recall are Aveline and Sergeant Melindra (Miracle Makers in Act 1). I'm sure there's others but they would be some of the rare NPC's and of course elves.

Ha! Excellent.
That shows exactly how ridiculous the animations really were.
For me this really is more than a "minor nitpick". You watch your character run around for hours, and considering how eager Bioware is lately to talk about how they are all about equality for male and female characters the choice for such a horrible female animation is even more baffling to me.

Honestly I want something in between of Mass Effect and Dragon Age 2, for both are examples of an extreme and I personally would like to see something that is a little more moderate.

I thought it was fine. It never really bothered me like the godawful gorilla lurch/shuffle thing femShep did in ME3.
However, as far as the Inquisitor is concerned, I can't imagine a female qunari walking the same way as a female dwarf. And if they sashay like Hawke, hmm.

I wonder if people who played FemShep played BroShep as well. Because believe me, he also moved a like lurching gorilla. If that's "walking like a man" I wouldn't have minded them adding a bit of "strut" to my poor Shep's walk.

Oooh that's a good idea. I'll have to go rewatch the demo. I agree with what someone said above, about it being fine if the exaggerated strut is part of a companion's character (i.e. Isabela) but that it shouldn't be forced upon the player character. The player character should have an average walk since it's the vehicle through which the player role-plays.

I didn't mind the sway, but I can understand why mods exist to get rid of it. For my taste, I don't need a sway in my fem Inquisitor's step in order to feel like a sexy badass. I would prefer if they left it out and gave both genders the same walk/run animation instead.
As much as I hate that hip-cracking spine-snapping sway Femhawke has, I really hope they don't give us the same animations for both male and female, I'd like a little variance without it being too 'model strutty'.
Also, gender animation always slightly peeved me during cutscenes, I know it'd be more work to have even have separate standing animations dependant on gender during cutscenes, but it really bothers me that my female character suddenly starts standing like a wide shouldered brute or walking like she packing something in her trousers.
Or you know, just sitting...

Wow, is that from Mass Effect?!? I only sit like that when I'm home and in jeans. Never in public and never in a short skirt!
Okay, point taken.

To be honest, I wasn't really paying attention. I found the ME2/3 walking animations mildly more annoying, but at least most of the time you're combat walking and not galumphing. I don't care too much, but I suppose it'd be nice if the Inquisitor walked in a way that didn't turn off other people.

A normal girl walk would be nice, and not a men's walk. I for one run with my forearms out, the typical girl run. It would be nice if they made our female characters to act normal.
Yeah, but, a "normal girl walk" for you is probably not normal for me and lots of other girls. A toggle would be better, though, I doubt it would happen, to fit both sides.

I want my Inquisitors (all of them, including the Qunari) to walk like they are always slightly inebr-- slightly inebr*hic*, slightly drunk. I can't be the only one, can I?
All in all I agree with the people saying a happy medium is the goal to shoot for. I thought LadyHawke's run animation was silly, but not as bad as all the run animations from Mass Effect. Or femshep sitting down. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I'm sure other characters in the ME games crossed their legs when sitting down.

There was that cutscene in the beginning of Mass Effect 3 that varied on gender. It's when Shepard was about to fall but Anderson stops then. For male Shepard, he puts his arm across the chest while for female Shepard he grabs by the scruff of the back.

If they're gonna keep the hip sway fem walk the least they could do is make the running/jogging/sprint more realistic.

I sit like that all the time, so... what works for me may not work for you, and vice versa. Everyone has differeing opinions about how a person should walk, talk, sit, etc. based on gender, sexuality, god knows what else. We've all been socialized in different ways.
I think for a soldier like FemShep, it makes sense for her to sit like that. But others will disagree, and I don't think they're anymore wrong or right than I am.

Exactly! Dragon's Dogma lets you choose a stance between ladylike and ... macho, I think? Ironically, my male Arisen is on "ladylike" and my female pawn is halfway between the two. But it's a choice *I* got to make, and it adds a little something extra to their characters.

I've seen this statement before and I do totally understand it, she's a though bad-ass soldier not some dainty fashion model, ideally they just shouldn't have given us the option to put our lady Sheps in a damned dress (I never put my Shep in it, felt too out of character) because that's the only time you really notice that sitting animation on her. But really, who doesn't close their legs when sitting in a incredibly short skirt?

Now this I'd like, not sure if we'll ever get the choice, but giving our PC's—be they male or female, a choice of animation style would add so much more to our characters.

Well, they probably made the cutscene before they made the DLC which made the dress available
