See, that walk actually annoys me more.

I vote toggle.

Wow, really? I thought that one would be a more comfortable and even route to shoot for.

Is it because its a little too ambiguous, perhaps needs to be more feminine or even less so?

The skyrim walk looks like she's trying to balance plates on her head.

Or she has a pole stuck up...

Painfully reserved walk.

I hope this isn't offending to anyone because I don't want to be a jerk, you know lol?

I just don't like that walk because it's 1000000000000000000x opposite of my walk. I feel like it's more dainty mixed with awkward, whereas I kind of relate a a little bit more to f!hawkes walk. I think it's her hands [that bug me].

Sorry

I've worn costume plate armor (equivalent to DA:O massive armor) and it is HARD to maintain the sexy sway and nearly impossible to stand in the idle femHawke position.  The Skyrim walk is actually pretty accurate to what I was able to achieve.  The movement of her arms and legs looks like it minimizes the contact between the inner thigh armor/straps and also keeps the gauntlets/bracers from snagging on the belt.  To me, the Skyrim walk is attractive and realistic and I'd be happy to have something similar in DA:I!  Watching her run in plate like that though is seriously tiring me out o.O

I don't think the walk is fitting for someone wearing cloth armor, however.

I'd actually prefer a walk animation like Skyrim's. It, imo, looks more realistic.

Darnit, I kinda wanna replay Skyrim now.

Interesting, looking at it again I can totally see that 'plates on head balancing' walk, quite a stiff back she's got.

Lol, I'm not offended, I just really wanted to know your issues on the Skyrim animation. If you're all for a good ol' swigger swaggery walk then you're entitled to such an opinion, I'm not going to hold it against you.

The Skyrim animation was fine. Lara's in the last Tomb Raider was too. Hawke's and Femshep's... not so much. Then again, it only bothered me when she sat down only because I couldn't help seeing Broshep instead.

How do you reconcile such different tastes?

Toggle.

It's like being forced to be a mage or templar for the whole playthrough - when you are the opposite.

Reminds me of Xili's comments the other day - how she just couldn't write pro-templar.  Hands just could not do it.  Made me smile and laugh and agree.

In return for giving you a manlier walk I want males to be more muscular and walk like an angry bodybuilding bareknuckle boxer.

In DA:O we chose voice styles (sultry, cocky, mystical, etc), it'd be nice to select an animation style option as well- though obviously it's much more expensive and ambitious.  I mean... I can't imagine someone wearing the fabulous DA:I hats walking the same as someone in full plate.  I know I couldn't help but strut wearing that amazing hat!

I would be so curious to see how many who are fine with skyrim animation liked the latest Lara reboot as well.

Oh yes, Kateish thanks for poting that.  Great addition to this discussion.

This video shows why the swaying of hips for females is a dumb default animation (and how rediculous FemHawke's walking/running really was). Unless the female character is telling everybody she's ready and available I think Bioware needs to rethink on how a woman really walks.

Lmao please do not imply that all women that sway their hips while walking are trying to show that they are "ready and available".

FemHawk's is just... painful.

I'm trying to think of any other games where the female walk/run animation isn't quite as 'forced' as DA:II.

Skyrim seemed like a good choice for a sort of middle ground, sure, it's obviously not perfect but it does seem a little more believable, particularly if you're sporting heavy armour. I haven't had the chance to play the new Tomb Raider, so I can't really comment on that.

My memory is a little rusty but how is the animation for females in Dark Souls? And actually come to think of it what was the original DA:O animation? Was that just the same for male and female? Really need to start playing these games again...

(Ha, no problem zMataxa, I was just trying to stop the whole board from a de-railing by way of Mass Effect fashions. Which I may have accidentally started...)

I'm not, but that's what many people think of when they see a woman swaying her hips in a exaggerated manner. The swaying needs to toned down to be considered "normal". Unlike FemHawke's for instance...

I certainly hope not. It was fine in DAO.

DA2 > DAO.  I loved Hawke's sashay and certainly don't get the complaints I've read about it.  I'm aware not all females walk the same way, but DA2 giving us a distinct female rig was a million times improved over the standard male rig.

Its distinctively female, but some would prefer something less exaggerated and more plausible in heavy plate armor.

I don't think anyone's arguing that the strut wasn't sexy. Well, I'm sure some people didn't find it sexy, but that's not the point. The point is that the Inquisitor is stabbing demons, not performing at a fashion show.

Edit: actually, we almost never walk in these games. If the running animation's reasonable, a strut for a walk wouldn't bother me much. I wouldn't ever see it :P

Edit: There's sway, but it's natural sway.
