I never said that. My opinion is that things added should be realistic. If beards were an added option for women, I'd cringe every time I saw it, and I wouldn't use it. However, I wouldn't bring a call to arms (so to say) against it.

Beards for women won't be an option anyway, so I don't see a reason to argue on that point anymore. Your opinion that you do not want eyeshadow and lip color for men has been noted. There's no point to argue this further. (We'll just go around and around in circles arguing).

I never said I never wanted makeup for men. I said both genders should have unique stuff. Men have facial hair, so women characters should have something unique to them.

Oh. I misunderstood then. What kind of thing could be unique for them? There's not much else that could be added.

In Skyrim, only mods can give females facial hair. There isn't any game (that I can think of) that allows women to have beards. However, there are many games that allow men to wear eyeshadow and lip color without mods (including Skyrim). 99.9999% of women are incapable of growing beards without the help of testosterone. 100% of males are capable of putting on a bit of eye shadow and face paint. Many men just choose not to.

I agree on makeup for men.  I generally shy away from makeup on my male characters in other games but my preference shouldn't limit others who want to play differently.

That's fine. But yeah, makeup is really the only unique thing they had face customization wise. Hmm...

Some options shouldn't be given to female characters. Such as facial hair. Asking for facial hair for females would be like asking for Qunari horns for humans, elves, and dwarves.

Saints row best cc ever. All options available for both genders, actually genders is just option.

Because not all men are the same.

People have preferences. Some guys like to wear makeup... some don't.

Makeup isn't solely for women.

It's not just about the character looking as though they are wearing makeup. In fact, I believe that to be by far the least important reason to have makeup options in a character creator. When used subtly or in different shades it all has its uses above and beyond making the character look as if they're wearing makeup.

Eye shadow especially is useful to create the impression of deeper set eyes, and character creators have an unfortunate tendency to not allow deep-set eyes as a possibility. Lip colour can be used to make the lips less obvious as well as more, and cheek colour can be used to create the impression of more sunken cheeks or obvious cheekbones (or just make the skin tone look somewhat more natural, since they tend to be quite uniform in games and this is often not the case in reality). To me, those are the important reasons to have it available and available to both, but I don't think people should be limited from having their male characters wear obvious makeup any more than they should be limited from having their female characters do it.

There are lots of options in any given character creator I'm not likely to ever use, but I'll always think that having more options is better. Am I going to make a character with a beard? Probably not. Am I going to make a bald character? Probably not. Am I going to make a character who wears obvious makeup? Again, probably not. In all of those cases, however, I think that clearly people should be able to do those things if they want to. I also wouldn't rule out that I'd make a character using any of those options, since if I do play a game enough times I'll play all sorts of characters.

I don't understand why people have this issue. It's exactly the same thing, be the person in question male or female. If it doesn't make sense or is creepy for one to do it, it doesn't make sense or is creepy for the other, and vice versa. (I don't personally understand why anyone would wear makeup when not on stage, but I certainly have no problem with them doing so. Whatever makes 'em happy, so long as it doesn't involve damaging other people, which wearing makeup certainly doesn't.)

I don't know, because some people like that look? (I hope you don't think Johnny Depp is creepy). Besides, literally every male actor wears makeup.

I was actually thinking more of how the nobility wore it as a status symbol, or how some ancient cultures like Egypt wore it for more practical purposes. But no need to apologize.

A lot of unique NPCs in DA2 have more detailed skin textures, and male CC generated characters could get closer to this more interesting look with makeup.  I play female 99% of the time, and even then I only use "blush" to define the cheekbones, eyeshadow for deeper set eyes and low intensity lip color to make my character look less jaundiced.

Hmm don't really see a problem with ( though i'm probably not going to use it if it's an option) considering the fact we're going to Orliais where this is very popular for nobility and according to WOT.

Wearing makeup up is another popular tradition for both men and women in Orliais, even chevaliers may wear cosmetics. There is both masculine and feminine makeup, although outsiders may have trouble telling the difference.

Makeup can be a strong indicator of social standing, the quality and rarity of one's makeup- uncommon hues and consistencies are prized - speak volumes of one's status.

So why not other games as people mentioned have done it before, and it's possible we could be nobility or possibly from Orliais, people don't have to use it and from the things they've said the cc should have a lot of options though how detailed it will be remains to be seen but they did say we'll get a video about it at some point.

Yeah, it's no big deal for dudes to wear makeup. Plenty of them do for various reasons.

Different strokes and all, but also like I posted earlier in the thread, you can use makeup in darker shades of your character's skintone to give depth to the face. I add makeup to all my characters of both genders in both Saints Row, and the Sims for this reason. It doesn't look like a man wearing makeup, it looks like a more lifelike face.

Honestly, I rarely play as a male character if I have the option of female, but if I could make a dapper piratey rogue the likes of Jack Sparrow or Adam Ant, I am so there.

Lip colour can be used to make the lips less obvious as well as more

In fact, that's exacty how I used it in the Mass Effect character creator.  I found FemShep's lips too pronounced, and thought it made more sense for her not to have noticable lips.  I also liked how ME's CC allowed FemShep to have thin lips, something that often isn't available to female characters.

Yeah, you do kind of look like Jared Leto a little bit. Yeah but like an uglier version of him. I guess... uh... probably not even Jared Leto but like, a relative of his who's fat and ugly and still sees Jared on Christmas.

What Remmirath said.

On a personal level I'm really hoping for the make-up option because, while I wouldn't want any character of mine walk around in this world with heavy make-up on (and I'm choosing to believe that characters like Morrigan are not wearing make-up to look pretty but war/tribal painting of a kind) I'd like to highlight my male characters eyes a bit...

I'd like to have an option for eye shadow and lip color for male characters. I'm sure this is a controversial topic, as some wouldn't want the option, and others would. This proposal is simple enough and doesn't really require much explanation.

What are your thoughts?

Sure why not? And while we are at lets give female characters (especially dwarves) the ability to have beards.
