or use magic to open them, I seem to remeber a game where you could bash locks but risked damaging object inside the chest if you did. Cant remeber the game though, maybe Neverwinter Nights...

I don't know about Neverwinter Nights, but in Baldur's Gate you were able to bash locks when you were a melee class. The funny thing is that in DAO, there is a bashlock animation and broken chest textures, they just left it out in the end (you can use it with a mod)

I can't put my finger on the first Neverwinter Nights, but the second definitely had a lock bash option that lead to some objects you would have gotten getting damaged to the point of being unusable rubbish. :)
Also, in Baldur's Gate 2 mages could also open locks thanks to the "Knock" spell.

I also look forward to the skill persuasion. I really liked it in DAO. Thanks Zelanthair for doing this.

In NWN you could bash non-plot locked chests and doors though I do not believe there was damaged items if you did so. That was great when I didn't want to be a rogue or have a rogue in my party. However, I could be wrong in the details of bashing locks in NWN since it has been a while since I've played the OC as I tend to focus on playing modules.

I don't know about the first, since I have yet to play past the tutorial, but in the second NWN (developed by Obsidian), a lock bash inevitably led to some content of the chest being trasformed into useless junk. A small price to pay for not having someone with lockpicking abilities (be they roguish or magic) in the party.

The other thread is "fake-rumors."  Rumors that are clearly intended for fun.

Hm, I seem to recall KOTOR2 having a feature much like what you're describing. I believe if your security skill wasn't high enough, you could "bash" the locker open, but risk breaking one or more items inside. I can't remember if this same feature existed in the first KOTOR, though. :?

It's kinda like those fiction books, that say "they are based on fact".  :)

Game Informer Podcast

  • There is quite a bit of information I gleaned from this podcast recorded by Game Informer. Joe Juba and Kimberly Wallace conduct an over-the-phone interview with creative director Mike Laidlaw to answer some questions that fans had regarding DA:I. Click here to download the podcast. (It brings you to a page that's all black and has a small audio player on it. Just right click the black area and select 'save as' to save it to your computer.)

  • Dragon Age: Keep will be the method of transferring your previous game choices over to DA:I. [03:36]
    • Choices you made in previous games, such as who becomes the ruler (or rulers) of Fereldon, if you completed Morrigan's ritual (this decision is perhaps the one with the most weight behind it), who Hawke sided with at the end of DA2, etc.
    • Keep is a way to take those decisions and store them online.
      • It's going to be a free, web-based program, but it will be viewable on your tablets, iPhones, etc.
    • From the Keep, you can create an account and build out your own history by making those decisions. You customize your own Thedas that you want to import.
    • Players can maintain multiple world states (which is what he called the histories you had built)
    • So far, the choices you can make are in the dozens. There's a fair number of them you can make. In part, some of them won't play a massive role in Inquisition, but they were still major choices that you made.
      • Paraphrasing his words, he wanted to make sure that they have a lot to pull from for use in future games or other parts of the franchise.

I made this thread dedicated to actual rumors, and this is the section I covered on the Keep. I hope it helps.

Yes, and no. You could bash a container open, but it wouldn't break anything.

Playing the game right now and during tutorial it stats you can smash open containers but may damage the contents. I don't recall ever breaking anything but it may have just turned object into salvage.

True rumor: The tall black people are back. The ones that were rebooted to be grey and this time you can play one of them. Analogously the people of Theadas think them monsters. Then again they could be tailless Tieflings as it was before the patch or any other deviation.

Yeah, in KOTOR2. In KOTOR, there were no components, so nothing to break.
