Aren't achievements used in some capacity as a metrics tool on the developer side of things?

To some degree. They're a pretty rough instrument compared to the more detailed in-game telemetry hooks, but at a high level I think we can look at things like comparing the number of people who got the "finished prologue" achievement to the number who got the "completed game" achievement (and the milestone achievements along the way), or see over time how many people are still starting the game for the first time.

See but this is sort of my point. I hate collection achivements, too, but I would love to have some! This is why I want some sort of in-game achivements system that doesn't reflect on gamerscore or platinum %, so achivements that people don't want to do won't sit there taunting them.

Some I am ok with but some games I have played it's such a slog to get them.

DAII's alchemy/crafting achievement is one I still have YET to receive.  I will probably just go and get it by using a guide.

Achievements in games aren't actually achievements anymore. So, they're just more pointless fluff to further your skinnerbox training. I just try to ignore them for the most part, these days.

I hate many achievements with a fury of a thousands suns. The ones I dislike are mostly the ones that require you to use a skill 50 times, do every possible romance. Basically anything that I actually have to get out of the story to focus on completing or do a new play through specifically for that. When I see 20 darkened achievement badges because I haven't done them I feel like I have missed something even though in most cases I really haven't. I don't mind the ones we get from the big story bosses because it kinda reinforces that you did something big. I also see the point of the intro ones to encourage me to try different things. I also like the one for recruiting party members because if you miss one you really are missing out on something. I will be playing on pc so I don't know if I can turn off the achievement notification thing on origin or through the game, but I want the option to hide it. That way I can feel i did something for myself and if i want to I can check the achievement list later.
