I'd rather defend those who I won't eventually need to protect others from.
But then, how would you know that you'll eventually have to protect others from them (whoever they are)?

Find Isabela (please, at least a cameo)
Romance Cassandra... Oh, it's happening.

That... that just sounds REALLY creepy.
*Help the elves and Templars.
*Kill or oppress as many mages and abominations as possible.
*Conquer everything that isn't dalish.
*Save the keep.
*Do everything in his power to strengthen the Templar order.
*Find someone worthy of being his apprentice.
*Kill all those that oppose him.
*Gain a political foothold.

2nd playthrough I'll play the peacemaker.

Yeah, kind of. Lol Wasn't thinking creepy though. Just sorta came out that way. Can being really tired be used as an excuse? No, probably not.
Seal the fade tears, stop whatever wars are going on that I can, and find a nice place to settle down afterwards, find someone, maybe have a kid, maybe not. And try to resist the call to put my armor back on, pick up my weapon and go adventuring again.
Attack those who can't fight back.
To smooch Cassandra.

Or something along those lines. Basically, "I'll do what feels right." Be it lawful, moral, pragmatic, or whatever - it will be what feels like the 'most correct' response to that particular situation.
Help Templars and Mages gain common ground.
Help the Elves gain independence or at least more equal footing.
Help as many slaves as i could.
Destroy as many slavers as i could.
Slavery = bad
My primary Inquisitor will be working to bring the world back to order. One of my other play throughs will try and achieve world domination.

My Inquisitor will be doing stuff and things.
LOL ! This.

My plans about the big things - closing the Veil tears, possibly resolving the mage/Templar conflict, etc. are non-existant at this point. I won't have enough information to know what to do about that stuff until I'm actually playing the game.
So, my dwarf Inquisitor's goals at this point are simple.
- Stab lots of people. (But only the ones who deserve it.)
- Save the world.
- Get the girl Varric.
- Acquire a pony.
- Ride off into the sunset on the pony. Preferably with Varric.
If Varric isn't a love interest I suppose she'll settle for someone else. The stabbing and the pony are non-negotiable, though.
- Get
the girlVarric.
Might actually be possible this time around, since Dwarf PC is playable.
my TODO list
- become a blood mage (hopefully by killing a companion)
- kill all templars with blood magic
- kill all mages with blood magic
- kill Leliana. again.
- tear the veil some more
- destroy the world
- slap Morrigan
After some of your comments, I kind of want it to be an option to become some organisation that people are frightened of and is actually like some evil army that has done more bad than good.
My list would be:
- resolve the conflict between mages and Templars.
- Make the Inquisition the most powerful organization in the world of Thedas.
- And close the Veil.
- Close the veil tear, obviously
- hang all extremists
- protect and provide for the innocent and those loyal to the Inquisition
* Deal with giant spooky hole in the sky.
* Handel whatever comes out off hole in the sky.
* Stopp people from open new holes in the sky.
* Restart Circles, this time under Inquistion control.
* Absorb or exterminate rebel mages.
* Absorb, neutralise or exterminate renegade Templars.
* Put the Chantry in it's place, Inquistion puppet wanted but not needed.
* Handel elven uprising in a orderly fashion to avoid genocide, ethnical cleansing and other warfare-induced inconvinences. Prefebly in a way that strengthens the Inqustion.
* Handel the Orealsian civil war in a orderly fashion to avoid genocide, ethnical cleansing and other warfare-induced inconvinences. Prefebly in a way that strengthen the Inqustion.
* Make sure that whoever sits on the Imperial throne "works towards a pro-Inquistion agenda".
* Maybe install Cassandra on the throne of Nevvara?
* In general act as a villian-esq organization that will properly be overthrown by the heros of a future dragon age game.

Almost forgot.
- Currency over ill-reputable damsels.
survive and remove everyone who is danger or obstacle unless i can use them then remove them.
