So there's this rather big problem I'm having everytime I start the game. Well, I don't start the game, because this error just pops up saying "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate"
I did the obvious which is search on google and got a bunch of information and answers and tried many solutions.
1) Reinstalled the game 3 times, since I have the retail Polish version, I installed the game both in English and Polish
2) Updated all my drivers including .NET and all those little things
3) Scanned my PC twice with 2 different programs for viruses, both which exposed 2 Trojans that were neutralized right away. (Maybe it's that?)
4) Cleaned the registry using 2 different programs
5) Defragged my drive
None worked. Because of all the research I did about this error I found out that the common problem is faulty RAM, but I've had it for about a year and a half and everything is fine with it. Another common problem is simply all the registry piling up on each other (and correct me if I'm wrong, of course) but as I said I cleaned my registry well.
Is this game just poorly coded? Is there anything else I can do? The only desperate solution is to simply fragment my hard drive but that's only when I know there is nothing else I can do.
The application failed to initialize properly?

Hey now, dont insult the game for your problems. :-P
If the game was poorly coded, dont you think you'd either A) see this issue more often or
already found your answer?
Anyway... What AV software did you use? And registry cleaners only work to some extent. They can only clean up they detect as unused or unlinked. If something seems like its in use, it wont clean it. So, over time, the registry does get bogged down.
Something you havent tried is to check your drive for errors. I'd try that next.

Memtest86 is a very good simple memory test program. Almost all comsumer PC's including gaming machine use 8 bit memory with no error detection or correction. If you have a bad memory location and use it can cause anything from a BSOD to nothing. Running a program like Memtest86 is the only way to determine if you memory has problems. It will usually find errors on the first pass.

I know this is an older post, but i am encountering the same problem (the application failed to initialize (0xc0000005) ) with dragon age origins and i cannot figure out how to fix it, the game was working fine, then i had to do a system recovery bc i had a virus, i was in the process of reinstalling everything when i encountered the problem that DAO is giving me this issue. I've try'd reinstalling, updating everything, registry cleaning, and defragging. None of the other solutions ive seen via a google search seemed to work either, im at a lose and any help would be GREATLY appreciated. (step by step please, im not a computer genius)

I suggest you try posting in the DA:O Tech support forum, instead of the ME2 Tech Support forum, as you will find people familiar with that game there, not here. Also, make sure you read the stickied threads and post accordingly, you will need to detail your computer specs, drivers, game distribution and patch level, and perhaps a few more other things.

The game that this thread is about, Mass Effect, shares very little with Dragon Age.
