I liked Kaiden, there were more interesting characters, but he was likable

Nope.

A good character in my opinion. Gets called a whiner, which he most assuredly isn't.

Hopefully he and Ash retain individual roles, and one doesn't simply replace the other Virmire survivor for the exact same plot function.

I liked Kaidan. He survives in almost all of my ME 1 saves.

He's the kind of person I would make my second in command. He's also the kind of person I would sacrifice to save someone else because I know he would be cool with it.

The thing I didn't really like about him or Ashley was how they seemed so generic. All the aliens had these sweet-ass class names, like Turian Agent and Krogan Warlord, but for them it's just sentinel or soldier (which should have been marine because there's a difference). I'm kinda worried that Jacob is going to be really generic, too.

Not enough to spell his name right, though!

J/K... sort of.

He's a Cerberus Operative, so at least he has his own class.

But I didn't really mind that with Kaidan. Sentinels are very versatile, they could fill the required tech slot AND use biotics.

The aliens probably felt the same way about the humans.

GARRUS:  Boy, I wish I could be an Infiltrator instead of a crummy ol' "Agent."  Lucky humans...

Kaidan is sweet. I have him saved in two of my games and turned him renegade in one and kept him paragon in the other. He's not my favorite romance option but I didn't hate him or anything. I just thought he was a little boring.

I love Kaidan. Even on one play when I romanced Liara, I still saved him over Ashley. Not that I hated Ashley, I just liked Kaidan more. He can take a lot of pushing to romance (compared to Liara) but on my latest play through, that I need to finish before ME2, my renegade Shepard got him to turn renegade so it should be interesting to see how that plays out with the romance.

No, not only do I like Kaidan, but I think he's the kind of guy one could settle down with. :) His romance doesn't strike me as especially dramatic, but it doesn't need to be.  I'd call him "the quiet type"--which I like--but he's hardly mute (why are some people saying that?) and he'll chat you up if you take the time to actually talk to him.

I didn't mind him, but when he said it was the right choice to get Ashley I was all like... kay.... bai. That was the end of him.

The reason I don't like him is because he's so reasonable and pessimistic and cynical. I like men with a small child inside them, a sense of playfulness. Though I'll forgive Thane for not having a sense of humor...

I don't understand this either.  He has the same voice as Carth, so he *is* Carth?  That's silly.

By the way, I did like Carth, but I understand why people call him a "whiner."  Not so with Kaidan...

He is?  In what way is he pessimistic and cynical?  I don't get that at all.

I liked Kaiden just fine. He needed his past developed a bit more than it was though to make him more complete.

Now seems like a good time to plug the Kaidan Alenko Appreciation Society.

It's KaidAn.

I like him more than Ash, but she was a woman and women and kids are always hum-dee-dumed first, so I had to let Kaidan get verschamatztgesund. Then I just kinda froze Ash out and stopped talking to her in passive-agressive rage.

I liked Kaidan tons more than Carth and two I think Kaidan was one of the best troops you could have on your team. On at least two of my playthroughs I know he survived.

I like Kaidan. He is very kind-hearted and leveled person. And his abs...

Oh yes...one must not forget those abs.

I loved Kaidan. I thought his backstory was much more interesting than Liara's or Ash's. And I admire him for making something of his life after having a not so good experience at Jump Zero. Someone else might have gone in another direction. I will say this though...he played much differently depending on whether you had femshep or maleshep and was much more likable with femshep.

While Carth 3.0 is a lot less annoying than Carth 1.0, I have to say that he's far from the best character in the game. They still haven't debugged the whining glitch, where he cries into your shoulder about his problems the whole conversation. At least he apologizes for it now.

I actually like Kaidan MUCH more than Ashley who gets to taste space dust every time on Virmire. So I say that I like Kaidan okay. Didn't hate Carth either but that's besides the point.

You're exaggerating.

Interesting, how some people say he's "barely there", whereas others insist he whines and cries on your shoulder.  Not very consistent, for sure.
