Nope, I loved the man. He was a sweetheart and really quite deep once you get to know him. He has the whole shy/cute thing going on and it doesn't hurt that he makes for some good eyecandy.

Ugly...? How so? I most certainly find him attractive, as do others in this thread... it's probably because you are a straight guy and so sdon't really get the appeal.
He's absolutely gorgeous.

when you say no ******, that pretty much cancels out if you say some pretty gay sh*t. or you could say "pause" after that too.
Like, "did you see that dude's face? he got a nice jawline. no ******"

I see a lot of people say he is boring and has a dull backstory etc. Which I don't really understand. Maybe it's the way he tells it that ruins it for some people , but his story of biotic training, murdering his teacher, and such I found quite engaging. Especially compared to some of the others (I am very glad the character's are getting more time to shine this time around). I also thought his romance was one of the best, some well delivered lines between him and femshep I felt.

Edit: And I think he's by far the most interesting crew member. He's a L1 biotic, from the first wave of humans to be "found' with the power. He was liekly the victim of purposeful exposure. He was sequestered in a biotic camp at a notorious facility. He killed his teacher. His health is unstable because of his biotics. I think his main issue is that Bioware didn't adequately explore his background. I found it much more interesting than Liara's and Ashley's disgraced military family angle. Wrex and Garrus had very little of a "backstory" and Tali's interest was more in the nature of her culture than in anything having to do with her backstory. IMO

I hope that’s changed in ME 2; whilst I understand that there are complications I don’t see why you as Shepard can’t kindle a deep friendship with “romance class” teammates, regardless of gender. It’d only help to create a richer experience for the player in my opinion.
That said however, on the whole I found Kaidan to be a pleasant and agreeable guy. I appreciated his introspective nature and respected his measured tone considering his significant abilities and his past. I feel that Kaidan’s the type of guy who’s had a serious knock in his life but managed to pick himself up and continue onward in as positive a manner as possible; his stoicism was admirable to me. Even whilst playing as a male I perceived that he had come to terms with his past and was just concentrating on fulfilling his duty, I couldn’t knock him for that.
It’s just a shame that his life was so closely tied to Ashley’s, I would’ve liked to have kept him around as a solid ear to bounce my thoughts off of, but due to Virmie I’ve always chosen Ash out of sentimentality when I played as a male.
I had a female Shepard playthrough where I did initiate a relationship with him, but I’ve since altered it to be purely platonic once I learned of Jacob Taylor whom I find more interesting in theory and believe would make a better match for my character.
Still, I have nothing but respect for Kaidan Alenko.

Yeah, Just getting to know Ashley peaked her romantic interest, and when I didn't return it, she wouldn't really talk to me anymore, always cleaning some damn guns. Why couldn't we just be good friends?Grand Rider wrote...
The player’s own values aside; I think the lasting impression Kaidan leaves depends heavily on which gender you were when you interacted with him. I found him far more forthcoming (and as a result interesting) when I played as a female Shepard, as a male he never really confided in Shepard. The same can be said for Ashley who never truly bares herself to Shepard unless you’re male.

I hope BioWare changed that this go around.
