Hi all, I just need a few pointers.  I'm in between games and have been trying to get going on this module.  I understand that its built to take advantage of ranger special abilities. but I just keep dying!

My stats as a L11 Ranger (Elf) are:

Str  14

Dex 18

Con 14

Wis  14

Int   10

Chr 8

I have weapon finesse, weapon focus shortsword, weapon focus longbow and as favoured enemies elves and animals.  But the spiders take me down rapidly, even when I have my animal familiar (boar) and a dominated deer.

Possibly spells will make the difference?  I tried Grease on the Ettercaps, but they weren't phased!

I don't think it's designed with rangers in mind. See class specific module list by ME for more ranger-specific modules. (see my signature)

Maybe try luring some of your enemies back to starting area with friendly NPCs? Try higher level? Try picking spiders one by one?

Aaaaah! Will keep at it, then.  Those damn spiders come in packs of three..

Thanks for that list WL!

Added another level (Rogue), put 10 points into Tumble and selected the resist poison feat.   Then I pulled the spiders back into the "home" area so that the NPCs could help fight them.  After a while I could whittle their numbers down enough to be able to explore the forest on my own.  Whew!

The downside is that every spider that was killed by an NPC was a lost opportunuty for experience points.

True that, Empyre.  But I was a wuss  ;) I came across a black dragon in the final cavern, and only managed to win when it wasn't there.  What are the weak points on a black dragon?  Reflexes?  Never managed to cast Grease or Tangle effectively against it myself.
