All I want is to remove the glow effect on Shepard so that there's only the floating armor bits.

I've looked through old BSN projects and found color changes and armor removal, but none that remove the shine.

I've also been looking into trying to mod it myself but that hasn't been going well.

Any help?

As far as I know: the texture for the techarmor, like all other holographic items/interfaces are simply a black and white 'mask', the material assigned to the object determines how the texture information is processed. You can change the pattern, you can completely remove all pattern and glow but to influence the material (aka removing glow and keeping pattern) you would have to alter the material and atm this is only possible through hex editing.

Actually, I did manage to get rid of it with TexMod. I only wanted to remove the part that made Shepard glow and luckily that mask is separate from the one used on the armor hologram.

Oh that's cool, I thought both were controlled by the same texture, glad to see you worked it out =)
