No Idea what would go beyond horses really.

I hope horses will be customizable, to an extent. Maybe picking their armor type/style etc. and maybe fur patterns and colors? Please, BioWare...? I don't wanna be stuck with Generic Brown Horse #10506895345, or some horse that only wears brown leather or somethin'.
I want a horse that wears pink. All will see my pink-clad horses charging into battle, and will know that the Pinquisition has arrived.

You're probably right. Do you think they'll be class-specific?
No, but they might be area specific.

I think both mounted combat and flying mounts (gryphons or otherwise) will be ruled out. The problem with flying mounts is - ask any Blizz dev (yes, the other B guys), it changes the game design in dramatic ways you have to plan around. (And they could even if that impact in a non-MMO). Mounted combat is also a big zots problem. I put it in the category of swimming, jumping, climbing, or scabbards & cloaks. Like, I'm not counting on it.
Still, I am wondering what ground mounts will be like. We know at least some will be horses, and they will be basically persistent, like they don't disappear when you get off them (looking at the other B guys here).
If flying mounts were introduced, i wouldnt expect nor want their to be a machanic of flying. Id rather it be a means of safe fast travel, maybe even act like a companion in ways, where you can interact with it at the "party camp" Maybe even giving you an ability to call it down in combat to deal some damage before flying off again

Horses will probably have armor at least. If you can customize your gear, surely you can also customize your horse. What extent that will include coloring, I don't know. Maybe if they give us a mount from the start, we get to pick what it looks like?
And I think I do remember the developers saying something along the lines of mounted combat--it's one reason we never had horses before. But I think this time we can combat from horseback. I do not count on flying mounts, though--like I said, having dragons, griffins, etc. for mounts will probably occur when there are computers and engines capable of handling the loading and unloading of cells better. As soon as that happens, they'll probably add in flying mounts with even more glee than we will have in receiving them.

Alas, what's been said to date has been the opposite.

There will be mounts you can ride, but they have no plans for mounted combat. It isn’t ‘Dragon Age Chevalier’.
[end]
I'm all for it - I'd love to chase & charge some fleeing enemy down with my mount, lance in hand .... should be a real nice damage bonus! ... but I don't think we'll get it. This time, anyway.

At most I'm guessing Horses, Halla and Bronto.
That would make sense. Halla were used by elven riders, so I could see the Dalish protagonist using one for travel. Golems of Amgarrak showed that brontos can be tamed. I'm not sure if there's a counterpart for the Vashoth, though.

Now that I didn't know--I haven't been following DAI closely until just the past week or so--it seems like they're finally releasing info that's worth reading/watching.
I was referring to the past when they didn't add horse models because people would want to ride one, and they said they didn't add horses because then they would have to add mounted combat, allow people to converse from horseback, etc. and it was just going to be too costly and complicated. I also kind of got the impression, at least from the earliest snippets I heard of DAI, that mounted combat was a given. But I guess not. That's a shame; I already don't like the idea that my mount is basically just going to be a taxi, without any kind of personality or interaction (as far as I'm aware). Even if it doesn't help you in combat, there's a lot of potential for the player to become attached to their mount as a pet. A lot of real-world historical figures were quite attached to their war horses, even. It'd be a shame if Bioware didn't play with that concept at least a bit--maybe have the party members interact with the horse like they do the dog?

I would definitely not be completely satisfied till I can wear outlandishly coloured clothing, strange armour whilst astride a Mighty Wyvern shouting "Ni!" at the top of my Lungs.

I think flying creatures are unlikely, because the load of textures, meshes, scripts etc. during the flight would overwhelm the hardware and result in unwanted stuttering.

Then why are there flying creatures in the game? Ruling out any flying mechanic or flying combat, there's no reason it couldnt be in the game

Resource loading during fast flights above the landscape is a bit more demanding, than loading e.q. when you travel with an horse on the ground.

They have already animated and tested as well as shown at least one of the "Boss" Dragon encounters for the game. The Dragon fly's around for a while, destroys things in the process, spits fire out all over the place all at the same time.
I think the system can handle a smaller flying mount.....
If they do choose to implement a flying mount I highly doubt they would let us fly very high up in the first place, we could just dodge all unwanted fights and technically fast travel to a quest objective. I wouldn't worry about resource loading issues.

I'd like a pony for my dwarf, but I'd settle for a bronto. (Although I might still name it Applejack.)
I'm most curious about what the qunari are going to ride on. They either need really big horses or something stronger than that - do the Qunari even have cavalry, beasts of burder or animals that they ride? And if so, could our Inquisitor get his or her hands on a few?

If they ever introduced Halla as mounts for Dalish elves (or flat-ears as well, if that's your inclination), then I'd love to see a halla bucking a non-elf off if it tries to ride them. That'd be adorable.

The big problem with flight, and it might be worse in a SRPG with a more fixed narrative progression than an MMO, is it might allow a player to fly over some trigger point in the landscape for events and quests. Let alone avoid encounters. I think we might be able to run from landscape encounters on our fast mounts as it is.
I don't think there will be flying mounts. As insta-fast travel? Like, get on wyvern at point A; BAM!; fade to black; suddenly you're on wyvern at point B. Dunno. Maybe.

I have to agree that flying mounts introduce far too many gameplay issues they'd have to deal with.
