It may take up space, but it works pretty well in the Skyrim mods that allow for it (and in those mods, the companions' horses can usually be set to disappear when they're done riding if having their horses around bothers you).  I have a mod that, when you've got a certain number of followers and summon horses--if your horses aren't near enough to just hop on--they all appear in formation and rear.  It's kind of neat, though I don't expect anything like that in DA:I.  I do want my companions riding along with me, though.  Imagine the horseback banter!

"How much longer are we going to ride?  My bottom is starting to feel like--"

"No one cares how your bottom feels, least of all the Inquisitor!"

I really hope they do something like that. I find it extremely annoying when games (including vanilla skyrim) just let the player mount up while all followers just end up running behind them. I don't want to mount across the map only to have to wait 10 minutes for my party to catch up. The (semi) open world aspect allows all sorts of weird scenarios like this that could make it worse if companions can't mount. What if I take a shortcut by jumping down a hill/mountain, how do the companions path? Do they jump with me? or do they end up going all the way around to get to me.

There are definitely some aspects which need further clarification ... Looking forward to hear some more official statements about the mount system and the more or less open world style - especially when it comes to the companions.

Same here.  I'm hoping that companions don't disappear when I mount up, too.  That would be like going back a decade in game style to the old JRPGs where you could, for instance, hop on a chocobo but everyone would disappear when you did.  And if it meant I missed out on party banter, too, I just might never ride my horse or halla or whatever at all.

I'd like to see the whole party mounted as well, but that would take up space. Dunno if its worth it.

I know, it's a big ask. In the event we only see the protagonist - and not party members - when on mount, how would party banter be handled I wonder?

Griffins. I think this will be the first game we finally get to see the fabled Griffins. Their has been hints they still might exist in an isolated region and if my memory servers me correctly, it was somewhere in the Western Approach. That's the same place we saw in the PAX demo and no coincidentally is home to a legendary Blight battle near the Abyssal Reach. I think the fortress they snagged in the PAX demo was the Adamant Fortress too. So yea, I think we'll finally get to see a Griffin in the game. I don't know if they'll be a mount but I'm hoping so. The only conflict I can see with them being a mount is they supposedly can't survive in other environments which is what contributed to their supposedly extinction.

I'm not even gonna acknowledge griffons as a remote possibility.

Even if all griffons on Thedas are extinct, there are big friggin holes to a world of dreams. Feynriel could create a griffon, for example, then have it fly through a Veil tear. Or a spirit could take its form. Any creature they want could come from the Fade.

For all we know griffons could have originally came from the Fade. The possibilities are endless until we learn more about the veil tears.

I could be wrong but I don't remember anything being about said griffons except grey warden rode them and they went  extinct. everything else being fan theory and requests for giffions.

This is all we know about them. They originate from the Hunterhorn Mountains, which are located just northeast of the Western Approach.

I want my dwarf Inquisitor to mount a Mabari.

How about a bronto? They seem sturdy enough to be able to withstand the weight of a Qunari.

Seriously, I can't believe BioWare hasn't made it a playable race yet. Imagine the unique dialogue and fire-breathing conversation closers.

Giant rabid chickens with bad attitudes.

But in all seriousness, what is this fascination with mounts? I recall in Star Wars Galaxies, the worlds were so huge (granted, large pointless areas that had little of interest), exploration of the environ required mounts, but stand alone games where the worlds aren't so large, it seems like an unneeded luxury. Games like Fallout and Skyrim offered large worlds where exploration was part of the game, what's the point in bypassing that quickly on a mount, you might as well have a 'quick travel' option.

And more to the point, how does the 'Mount system' work in a game where the PC has companions? If I have horse, do my companions automatically have a mount? or Do I have to buy a mount for each companion? or Are they all considered to be riding with the PC? or Is it for the PC only.

Seems to me to be little more than wasted resources that could be better spent elsewhere.

Because people like it and they like the added lore immersion it provides for them. And yes, other companions will also have horses. Whether that involves an investment in gold is another question; I dunno.

Me, I'll certainly be hiking for the majority of my adventures; I don't even drive anywhere IRL more than a handful of times a year... but horseback riding here and then will be a fun mix-up.

If dragons were thought to be extinct for nearly 300 years and returned...

Griffons are "extinct" for 200 years.  Maybe there will be a possibility, maybe a preserved egg or something. You never know.

In all honesty I don't care about mount's, In most games they feel tacted on I find it more engaging to be on foot in most games not mention that mounts inevitably always get in the way in combat situations.

the most importnt thing about mounts is not what species they are. No the most important thing about mounts is can i use them to fuel my blood magic?
