Party goes just before Cronos Station as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not sure what to do with the "story" part of the DLC. The change in tone from the rest of the game throws me off. Right now I'm doing it just after Rannoch but it just doesn't feel right. Not sure if it will feel right anywhere in the game since the writing is so different from everything else in the game but I'm interested in hearing how other people have done it.

In a way, I struggle to view the clone Shepard part of the story as canon but I don't think I have much of a choice because of the Foundation comics. I guess that's the cost of some great fan service, but still...

I think right after Rannoch fits fine. Just did it my first time this afternoon.i can see it making sense to do some maintenance on the Normandy after all that. I normally did it after thessia but that always felt weird, what with Kia leng running amok with my data..

Plus it helps with the narrative flow because everyone would be in very high spirits and feeling invincible after taking the reaper down on rannoch. Then do citadel and fight and beat the clone, and then go to thessia making the sheps reaction to losing to Kia leng make more sense.

What system are you playing on? I know there is a mod on PC that allows you to play the Citadel DLC post MEHEM ending. Try that. Otherwise just do the mission either post Rannoch as a celebration, or after the ending.

Also, you dont necessarily have to consider Foundation canon

Post Rannoch overall makes the most sense, but there are going to be a few hiccups no matter what. It's taking place after the Normandy has directly been involved in conflict, so the set up of the Normandy getting called in for a tune up does make sense, the characters are still feeling pretty upbeat because they've now cured the genophage, stopped a coup, and resolved the geth-quarian conflict, but they haven't lost the beacon at Thessia or encountered the horrors of Sanctuary, and by this point, Shepard has mostly likely reached the point where they've locked in any romance. The hiccups mostly come in the dates - Miranda's visit to the apartment has her acting like the encounter with the clone was fairly recent, especially with the sushi place still being closed, among other little things. But post Rannoch/pre Thessia is pretty much the best spot in the game for the main story.

Yeah, after Rannoch seems to be the best spot to play the DLCs like Citadel and Leviathan.  Either that, or after picking up Tali and before facing the Geth Dreadnought (since that's also a good time for maintenance on the Normandy).  I save the hang outs and party for after I finish the game, and headcanon them as happening after the ending.

It feels rights after rannoch. Esp if you make peace between the geth and the quarians.

I've done the dlc right after the coup and right before Chronos.

You could always play it at different parts of the game to see what feels right for you

It doesn't really let you play postgame, it edits the dialogue for those who choose to play it after you get dumped back to pre-Kronos once you have competed the game, so there are no present-tense references to the Reapers or Cerberus.

As for my own recommendation, if you have a LI on the Normandy (Ash, Kaidan, LIira, Garrus, Tali, Samantha, Steve, start the story portion any time after you have locked in their romances.  Probably before Thessia.

Well, say you have the control chip discussion with her before the dlc, she then probably doesn't have time to keep up with the news of the Citadel. So when you meet her at your apartement after Sanctuary, it is probably new news for her. And the sushi place could very well be still closed.

Quick question, if you do the story mission then leave straight for the Normandy, all the meetups hang around don't they - they are only cancelled if you do the party or chronos?

Yes. The meetups will still be there for later.

I don't think holding the party cancels the meetups.

Kronos cancels everything, but you can still do them when the legend save dumps you back onto the Normandy pre-Kronos

^This.  You can go back to Silversun Strip whenever you want.  I've finished the game, returned to the autosave before Cronos, and the hangouts/party were all still available.  I'm pretty sure the hangouts would still be there for after the party, too.

Yeah, I once accidentally missed Jack's meetups because I didn't do the requirements before the party and when I went back after the party (and completing the requirements) those meetups became available.

IMO, the Citadel DLC is just too tonally jarring to fit into the game. Last time through, I played it after finishing the main game and figured it was just a dream that Shepard had, or a sort of "holodeck simulation" that AI-Shepard runs for itself in the Control ending when it needs a break or feels nostalgic for Shepard's life as a human.

Post-Rannoch is tempting, but Shepard is only back at the Citadel because the asari councilor has something important to share, and once you've had the dialogue with the councilor, Shepard should logically be in a hurry to get to Thessia. So either you go back to the Citadel and for some reason don't even talk to the councilor until you've done most of the DLC, or you talk to the councilor early on but don't bother to ask Hackett if the refitting can wait (or simply suggest someone else go to Thessia while the Normandy is docked).

Right before Cronos might work if you figure it's taking a while for all the forces to converge for the assault on Cerberus and the later trip to Earth, but then the tonal inconsistency becomes even more glaring.

I do it post-Sanctuary. Hackett is busy readying the fleets for the surprise attack on Cerberus Headquarters, and the Normandy is in dry-dock because she needs to be in the best possible shape for the final battle.

Meanwhile it adds an interesting edge to the plot of Citadel, because you get the impression that everyone is enjoying themselves and cracking stupid jokes because they know this might be the last time they get to do so.  And clone-Shepard is frankly a vacation compared to what they'll be going up against soon.

And that's the whole point of Shore-Leave - give people a chance to burn off some steam, so that they don't burn up.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I tend to headcanon that my Shepard is getting more and more frayed as time goes on, and it's becoming noticeable (Garrus telling him to come up for air, Shepard blowing up at Joker after Thessia and being told that his stress level has been higher than during the Skyllian Blitz, almost losing his love interest during Horizon). Hackett forces the Normandy crew to take a breather before the final assault, needing things to be 100%. The comments about how close the threat is looming only helps that. I got lucky that Miranda happened to become unlocked after Horizon for that reason.

Seems to fit best after Rannoch and before Thessia. You've got the whole squad on-board. Unfortunately, you have to wait to do the party until after Horizon for Miranda to show up.

Honestly, in terms of fitting the party itself into the storyline (unless you use a mod to stick it "after the ending"), it fits best before Thessia, too - an island of peace before everything goes to hell.

It makes sense to do it as late as possible, just before Cronos. That way, you can get all available character scenes.

I beat the game then do the Citadel DLC. That's my after party.

So, no meta-gaming here? No one wants the Lancer or Suppressor? Level V mods? I metagame the heck out of it. I want BATTLEFIELD-GOD SHEP!

Gibbed.

...I'm so ashamed.

...OK, maybe not.

There's some awesome mods out for ME3 now. Mesh mods to give FemShep a soldier's physique instead of noodly arms. Put Diana Allers in more, ah, professional attire. Restore Ashley's ME1 appearance and put her in a standard-issue Alliance uniform. I've even tried my hand at some Coalesced modding. Cool stuff.
