Yes, you're reading it right.

There are two nice little ME2 mods currently in progress. Of course, we're not talking about getting him as a squad member or changing the plot, but I think you are going to like it.

There are still some tech issues, but those (hopefully) can be solved.

For now, tell me, dear Kaidanites, what sort of info could Shadow Broker base terminal possibly have on Staff Commander Alenko?

I doubt they could find much. As you can remember, even TIM said, that his files were pretty much classified. But I think that something could have slipped past his OT firewall or military security filters... ;)

Oh this sounds interesting.

Hmmm. I dunno. Could be something about Brain Camp? Maybe something related to his biotic squad? When did that start? Maybe being looked at for leading the biotic squad? Or maybe something about his dad?

Ya, I think you can add some things from the comic about brain camp :o (because the story is not that bad :s)

Nooo.

You've got the big brain camp plot fully discussed and discovered in ME1. There was hardly anything new in that comic, which basically retold the ME1 story with poorly drawn pics.

We only have 3 possible entries (at best), I'd hate to waste any of them on BATT and Rahna. ))

I've got something on my mind already, but I want  to hear more ideas from you.

Take a look at Legion, Jack or Mordin's dossiers, take a look at Hackett's reply. A small piece of text can greatly add to the character and his story. BATT hardly can add anything, imo.

Wait, so we're making it up?

I think something about that biotic squad would be good. Just basic stuff like why they're picking him for leading that biotic squad.

Entry one could be a snippet of the post-Normandy incident, on the rescue ship or a few days after, where Kaidan's wounds and initial signs of PTSD are diagnosed. Very official sounding and clinical, maybe ending with something about him headed to Vancouver for recovery.

Next, as other said already, something about how Kaidan overcame his PTSD when/before Anderson put him in charge of the Biotic Squad. Did it have an official name in ME3?  If not maybe we can make one up.

Third, a rumor from an agent, that Kaidan has been making contact with Anderson asking about Shepard's return.

Well, those are my ideas.

Isn't it a little bit early for that? I've always thought, that 'biotic squad' came later, somewhere between Horizon and ME3 opening.

Wait, so we're making it up?

Yep. But it should not contradict anything we know, and it should make sense. Other than this - total headcanon freedom.

We only have 3 entries to make, but feel free to suggest your ideas.

Also, who plays on xbox? There is a small chance, that at least some of my doing might work for xbox360, but I need some files from the xbox version to try that. And, of course, I don't have any ways to test it on my own.

Kaidan has been making contact with Anderson asking about Shepard's return.

A tricky one. We'd need to make up a dialogue, where Shep is discussed, 3rd person. And not a single 'he' or 'she' is allowed. Both of them are close enough with Shep (and each other too), I think they should not be too formal talking about her (ouch! see? :P ). I doubt 'commander' and 'Shepard' will look natural.

I'm PC now, but I think Doodle does 360?

ME2 is too early for the squad, but I'm thinking more like why they're looking at Kaidan for leading the squad.

I like Kunari's ideas about Kaidan after losing Shepard. I think it'll be easy enough to skirt the pronoun issue.

Wow, looks like my post from opera mini did not make it... Ok. I'll repost it.

There is a slight chance, that I will be able to make a 'gender-sensitive' entry, but I need to test that. Which means, I need to get a proper mShep save, because I'm not really willing to flag my Lara as 'female=false'.  :)

In case someone volunteers - I need two saves with non-modded mShep (pleferably, 'single'), one right before the Horizon final battle (there is no save between combat and cut-scene, afair), and one at the SB base.

I will try to google something, may be, I remember there was some sort of DB with ME saves.

Edit: must NOT contain any premium DLC items! I only have SB and Arrival installed, special armors and weapons, as well as payed custom character outfits may not authorize.

Sorry, I have Overlord & Kasumi DLC's but I'll zip up my Kunari Shepard, he's unmodded and I didn't have those two DLCs until later PTs.

Any save on Horizon  (or close to Horizon) should do it. It's hard for me to imagine someone who does not save game before the boss-fight...

Bad news. It's impossible to change the SB dossier portrait. ME2 prohibits DLC textures changing. I can change  text strings any way I like, but changing a small pic results in authorization failure.

To put it short - one either uses a DLC crack (easy to find) or sees Jacob's pretty face in Alenko's dossier.

Another possible solution - Hackett's files, he has an Alliance logo for the portrait....and only one entry (vs 3 for Jacob).

Nrieh, any other generic logo'd entries we could use?   At worst, at least one entry would be nice.

I don't know why, but there wasn't that many saves in that directory.  I'll send 'em all to you

Nope. Rest are all faces. Xept for.....Cerberus. It has logo too.

Anderson has his own files, and we can put there something Kaidan-Anderson related.

By the way, I hacked mine. It's easy, It works, and one can always restore from backups.

That works and I totally forgot to send the files.  My dad has been ill so it's taking most of my off-work time.

Division actually.  Understand that what I say here is not criticism.  But it's something that has bothered me for a couple years, or since I first saw someone downgrade his division to a mere company/squad.  Doing so really downplays just what an achievement this is for Kaidan.  It also answers that burning question I've seen as to how he made Major so quickly.  I'm retired military and served time as an military instructor... if anyone wonders why this bugs me hehe.  Moving on...

For the record he leads the First Special Operations Biotic "Division".  (not 1st. 1st means something else in military terminology)  It's mentioned in hospital dialogue and in the Codex as Division and his description lead me to believe he was ordered to "stand-up" and run a "school house" as we military types like to call it. As the head of a Division he'd typically sit at the top of a pyramid of 100 - 1,000+ support staff that includes range operators, gear maintenance, armory, admin personnel, curriculum developers following his guidance, student control, etc, plus instructors he's likely trained himself, and then at the bottom are several squads of hand picked students.  Not sure how many squads he has because biotics are rare but I know it is more than one because his dialogue on Normandy is that he found "one" of his squads/teams fighting outside of Chicago. Realistically, biotics are rare so in head cannon I don't imagine his division being more than 80 to 100 people. But not important.

What is important is that out here in the real world Divisions are only led by 0-7s or at a bare minimum a highly qualified 0-6. Regardless of Country.  In the ME universe an Alliance 0-6 is a Major and Kaidan is definitely highly qualified.  It's all about having the authority and clout to get necessary things done and Anderson promoted him up to "fit" the position as the best and probably eldest Biotic to have any kind of Spec-Ops experience.

Shepard asks, "Give me the update,.. Major" and Kaidan launches into explaination that he has a Division as if that is all the explanation Shepard needs to understand why he's a Major now.  And between military folks it works.  But for everyone else I think Bioware was a little too subtle on this one and a lot of people missed out on just how significant this is to the career and life of our beloved Mr. Awesome.

Anyway, Carry on.  :)

P.S. Sorry, didn't want to derail the convo.  I am looking forward to seeing the mods.

Lol, yeah, I wish Bioware had made it more obvious for those of us who have no clue about this stuff.

It definitely makes sense this way. I know I was confused as to how he made major so fast and I'd seen other people saying it wasn't possible.

I am looking forward to seeing the mods.

The 'Horizon letter' is already finished (link) , but I don't have ETA for the 'Shadow Broker Files' right now, sorry.

I'ts good to see someone who loves Kaidan and is familiar with the real military life. Would you mind if I ask you some questions in PM? A 'military expert's' advice might be useful, you know, especially if he's a native speaker. :)
