For a long time I played my human engineers pretty much the same way. They were speced almost the same way with only difference being passives and fitness. (5/3 male, 4/4 female)
Everything else was just the same except weapon choice.

Why? We'll because for my play style and my personal prefferances concerning their powers was telling me that that's the only way to go. But then I decided to give them a totally opposite builds and after doing that and playing both kits, I have to say/ask; is there a bad way you can spec HE?

Answer: unless you want to do it deliberately, there isn't.

John

Jerry-Ann

While the mrs. excels in CC, aggro, and she doesn't care about ammo boxes, Mr. is the ultimate boss killer that simply doesn't care about the little threats as they all go down in one or two shots.
I still preffer the triple zap destructo drone over pure dmg&missiles but over 800 splash damage is not bad either. Jerry-Ann sometimes uses incindiary rounds if she's feeling sadistic.

Anyway, I just had the urge to share, and maybe discuss their build options for a page or two :)

(P.s. Sorry for turning Jan into an engineer Redbelle ;))

Love the human engineer.  Why double up on armor piercing?  Take the attachments off your weapon and add extended/heavy barrel.  But you're right to not cover up those 6+6 explosions with priming ammo though.

Love the HE, but can't see the point in the drone tbh.

You might be right on the piercing, maybe Inshould substitute it with say..CT for the Arc...

And I like that we agree on the combos thing ;)

Distraction, CC, stagger, possible kill streak upon detonation. The zapper is invaluable tool against primes IMO and phantoms. Rocket troopers for instance are suckers for the drone, and miracoulusly, they tend to miss it a lot with their missiles believe it or not.

Eg - I land a drone behind a prime and then just fill him with incinerate so he detonates himself. After that I just repeat till he's dead. This way, you can avoid probably more than 50% of his SP spam. Same thing with other enemies that can't stand the drone.

What do you think of the two different drone styles? I've only tried the stun type, always been curious about speccing it the other way

I know it has it's uses, but why not just chain overload straightaway, prepping them for a tech burst if there's anything left after you're done shooting at em when the cooldown is up?

I can't help but feel like I'm wasting a cooldown every time I use it.

I don't spec into the Combat Drone either, but then again I've never deployed my female Engineer.

*intentionally leaves door open for punchline*

We'll for one thing, they stop shooting at you and turn to drone. Not a big deal if you're in RHA but you will get some crosshairs of your hit box.
Try to think of it this way; in case of b/a/b - now you've got double chain overload. That's 6 zaps over 3. Can't be worse, besides the CD on the drone is very short.

Reported for sexism!!!

OT: I love drone myself... always funny to see mooks bowing their head forward or backwards.. plus trolling guardian never gets old !

I used to spec into fitness on both of them skipping drone on one and incinerate on one.

But now I spec out of fitness on both of them and spec the female as a rocket drone combo specialist and the male one into a zap zap drone with weapon passive head hunter.

The female uses smgs with cryo ammo ( for cryo incinerate spec ) and the male uses paladin or harrier with AP ammo. Both are probably my best kits though.

We'll..I still find the triple zap suicide way more useful than just shields and missiles but as I said, over 800 damage in 2,5 m radius is not that bad either.

The difference is if you land it on target, the missile drone will look to make some distance from the enemy before it fires, while the suicide drone will stay close and begin its work imidiately. (And of course you want it to die) That's why I found it better to land the missile drone just in front of me. Though it will sometimes do nothing. However you can always make a hybrid drone. Take self destruct and maybe even one stun evo.

@ Boogie

Expecting the drone do some amazing work on its own will almost always lead to disappointment, though even then it can be useful especially if you need to make a quick getaway.

I think that after the player, the drone is #1 aggro instrument in the game.

But, but the Fury, the Slayer, Destroyer, Shadow, Talon, the HEro, HIro with redeemer...?

It is a good tool for aggro, detonating explosions, stagger, etc.  I never understood why some feel like taking one or two ranks of fitness is too much of a sacrifice for its utility.

No the vanilla humans. I played as a Shadow and I was looking for Fury builds but I couldn't find any.

I can't be arsed to read the earlier comments and see if anyone has said this yet, but...

A: You have on AP ammo with piercing mods. That's just silly, if you use AP ammo without the mods you would get better damage on double/triple hits or when shooting through cover (AP ammo prevents damage loss when shooting through objects, UNLESS there is also a piercing mod at the same time, then it looses that trait). [Exception: guns with innate piercing never loos damage when shooting through objects, regardless of mods/ammo.] I'd advise you either switch the ap mod for an extended barrel (or w/e you like) or swap ap ammo for warp for the better damage bonuses.

B: You forgot to finish spec'ing the Mrs. 6/6/6/4/3 is doing it wrong :P even on a great kit like the HE.

PS: Dafuq is with this site thinking 'B' + ')' = B) that is a pretty dumb shortcut...

Interesting read ^_^ I actually use a really similar setup to the Mrs.-C. I currently have her using 4/4 in both passives and am using Chain/Neural/Shield for overload. It's proven extremely effective. I'm still testing the waters to see if I'm willing to drop down to 3 fitness. I have too much of an attachment to the suicide drone to consider dropping it (though I do on the male, I mean we do get 2 humans so why not try things?).

After shuffling through various weapons, surprisingly my weapon of choice for her is the Adas, a gun I usually loathe, but it has the right feel for the kind of playstyle I'm going for and the ultralight mod + rank 4 capacity gives me the perfect cooldown to detonate my combos in time.

Now that I think about it though, yeah reading would've been quicker than typing *facepalm*

I should go...

@rlucht

As you can see, all the gear slots are empty. I nearly put AP rounds there as a statement that I don't use the almighty incindiary.

The piercing thing is something I only recently discovered, and thanks for reminding me and the explanation :)

Ah yes, Jerry-Ann takes 5b too ;)

My apologies...you have a raging headache and probably don't know where you are right now.  Don't go...stay.

@Alison:  Adas is an interesting choice...I suppose it's all personal preference.  I prefer a weapon that doesn't rely on ammo primers so I can keep the 6+6 power explosions and be free to use Drill 3 and Geth Scanner
