Plus what dumdum002 said. It is good practice for clutching matches.

Solo'ing gold or platinum can be quite enjoyable if I'm in the mood for it, that's all.

Not just for clutching, you also develop your situational awareness in a way that you wouldn't get when playing with a full team. Then you can use that awareness to make sure your teammates doesn't get flanked and such.
dumdum mentioned earlier that soloing can help with respect to team play. I have found this to be very much the case in my experience.
It may not be what's intended, but whenever I unlocked a new kit I would build it and perform a bronze solo just to see the mechanics in action and to see how I performed with said kit and what I needed to do in order to improve my performance with it. I also didn't like the idea of taking a new kit into a game and dying 300 times while experimenting and possibly ruining my teammates' in-game experience. I like to hopefully be able to contribute and at the same time be considerate of others' experiences - but that's just me
.
Also - and this may be somewhat counterintuitive - but when I was moving up to Silver and then Gold I would take a kit I was comfortable with and attempt a solo - just to see how I performed and if I would legitimately be able to contribute in a team setting. These solo attempts helped me immensely in understanding what to expect at the next level and how to equip and use characters at each level. I had barely moved up to Gold play when I got a Gold solo with the Shadow, and that helped me feel much more comfortable and confident while in team play on Gold. I recently got a Plat solo with the (lol) TGI Harrier, so I know that I could at the very least contribute on Platinum if I move up to that level on a consistent basis.
More than that, I am now pretty comfortable clutching waves on Gold and helping carry perhaps-not-Gold-ready pug teams. I've found that I understand the game so much better now due in no small part to doing those solos. I read and/or hear a lot of friends (or whomever) talking about 'chaos' when going up to the next level. Well, there's definitely something to be said for throwing yourself into the fire - for me personally that involved throwing myself in there alone and figuring out what I needed to do not only to survive but also be a decent, contributing player.
Plus, I really enjoy the challenge and attempting to better my play - but everyone's experiences of course vary
.

How would you know?
I'm starting to like soloing Collectors. In comparison they have the least amount of BS and no screaming lady that won't stop.
It's challenging
Extracting on Platinum is satisfying every time.

If the rest of your team is downed, you are essentially soloing the rest of the wave. Sure, it's on a minimal scale, but the correlation is there.

Similar tactics, but you're right, on a different scale.
You'll have a whole lot more equipment to use and, even with a sub-par team, you will usually have expended at least half the wave budget by the time you clutch.

Somuchnope.
I tend to use more equipment on team games than solos. More ops packs from taking more chances, more gels because #ragegel4life, more rockets because I tend to only rocket targets in solos. Also, you are talking out your butt when you say that usually at least half the wave budget is depleted.
idk, I don't play plat. Maybe plat pugs actually do die that quickly.

Stop arguing with Token, he doesn't play this game enough to know things.
It's true. I'm sub-1000 hour scrub. ![]()

Trust me, usually if you have to clutch it is because you have teammates that are not yet that good at playing on the chosen difficulty setting. So usually when you clutch in those games you have to clutch basically the whole wave budget, because these guys die at the start of the wave. I also get the feeling sometimes that they purposely don't use their medigels when they realize that I can clutch a wave, and that is quite annoying considering how much more time it takes just because of them being cheap with their consumables.
Two reasons really:

I just tell them to not use their medigel at times so they can just watch how it's done. Well, hopefully

Ever noticed that they tend to use their medigels and rockets at the wrong times?
"Ohh, there is one enemy left on wave 3 and it's a Banshee, quick use a rocket!"
"Why use rockets during the first 10 waves? I'm saving them for extraction to deplete the wave budget by nuking spawns on wave 11"
"Ohh, I didn't realize you wanted me to use a medigel when I died and it was only the two of us left"
"So, while you are on the other side trying to kite enemies from this device I will use up all my 6 medigels trying to do it, I got this!"

Not to say I haven't but I've noticed more of them just simply not using both. I just take it that they just don't really understand how the game works. So anyone who gels at the wrong time I just blurt out "oh you shouldn't have, the wave is ending", me being able to handle the rest of the wave, or something along those lines. Even when they nuke spawns on objective waves like they want to clear out a path not knowing they just messed up the spawn and whatever. I just try to inform them. I dunno if they absorb that or even hear it cause of all the commotion. I know I was overwhelmed my first games with Banshees wanting to get a piece of my heart but if they do then one more newb informed.

Yeah, not all players hang on BSN to get all the knowledge that the game tells you nothing about. It is easy to forget sometimes that most randoms wouldn't have a clue about even half the stuff in this game. I mean, how are they supposed to know that a piercing mod doesn't do anything on the Acolyte, or that you don't need to rocket the lone Banshee when you can so easily make her stop teleporting and such?
I really hope that BioWare decides to include a Multiplayer manual of game mechanics in ME4.
Not a big fan of soloing. I usually take way longer than I feel is acceptable. ![]()
I'm much more effective playing with a team and enjoy way it more. The only time I solo is when I need certain challenge points (since it gets done much faster) or for a special challenge. That said, I have found solos to be great practice for when you have to clutch waves and to improve overall awareness. Plus you learn how to take care of yourself in all types of situations.

Yeah the only manual we have are the tips at loading screens.
