I read on either the old forums or the wiki that Shapeshifter damage output was intended to be tied to spellpower rather than strength, but wasn't because of a bug. I still took it everytime anyways for the roleplaying aspect. As for how it should work, something like the shapeshifting in the Fade in DA:O would be useful (no long casting times).

Also, people saying Arcane Warrior was weak need to reassess that spec. With the right build and equipment you could solo the game on Nightmare with it by making sure you never got hit.

Well, in a way the shifter damage was tied to spellpower. Increasing your spellpower increased your's shifter's strength/dex/con for bear and spider form, although for strength the scaling was a bit slow. The dex/con scaling a was actually pretty good, it was only strength that was a problem. Your strength was what caused damage though, so the scaling not working there was a bit of a issue.

Ah,my... Am I the only one that think shapeshifting is pretty awesome? (Mainly the swarm shape) In DAO, if you manage to get some dodge equipment that stack with the swarm's dodge ability, you are essentially untouchable! Plus the swarm is immune to the deadly knockdown/overwhelm ability, I had walked into an other will be a hard fight mob, and looked at those hive children eaten up by flying bugs, and that is pretty satisfying.

If shapeshifting would return, I will be a happy man really, though considering the efforts to do a good shifter, the chance is actually slim.

Well it doesn't sound like it will return, unless somehow Rift Mage involves creating a dimensional rift in your person that allows you to assume the form of Napoleon riding a tornado. Or unless Necromancer allows the Harvester form.
