Being able to play as a darkspawn.

Awakening showed that darkspawn can have emotions and free will allowing them to make their own choices. the messenger showed that they are even able to show acts of kindness (whether this makes up for him spreading the taint is another matter entirerly).
Therefore it is possible that you could play as a darkspawn with complete free will. It could present an oppertunity to end the blights peacefully and it might be intresting to see how people treat you and show a new pespective.
one of the biggest reasons for not doing this is that it might not even be possible if your warden killed the archietect. It could also seveally limit your interaction with npcs as most would be hostile to you. Also can you imagine the romance scenes? (and if you can, dont).
There are plenty more reasons for and against which I wont write down because i could go on for ages. the topic simply is: what would you think if you were able to play as a darkspawn in a DA game?
(p.s yes I know we were already able to in the darkspawn chronicles it just wasnt quite the same.)

It would be interesting, but totally undo-able considering the image Darkspawn have in the overworld of Thedas. Maybe as a dlc it could be done (not Darkspawn Chronicles but more like a quest centered around a village where we play a sapient darkspawn), but I don't see it happening outside of that.

I agree, I 'd quite like to see it in a DLC or expansion pack (as that could be quite possible IMO) which could allow us to see people judge you for your race and not your actions (to a greater degree than before I mean). It would be interesting, but totally undo-able considering the image Darkspawn have in the overworld of Thedas. Don't really want it, and besides something similar to Darkspawn Chronicles I don't ever see it happening. Even if they can be sentient.

welcoming the idea.
if a game is to provide differing perspectives and show the depths of a massive world through a comprehensive view, having a darkspawn playable character and the corresponding effects would significantly broaden the player's scope.
that said, seems a bit late into development stage.
I'd buy it, DLC or not.

what would you think if you were able to play as a darkspawn in a DA game?
BioWare DA Team pandered to the fans again, when will they ever learn?
Also Darkspawn poison and destroy EVERYTHING they touch, guess how well Diplomacy will go when you're poisoning everything you come into contact with?

Wait how do people clean it after the blight?BioWare DA Team pandered to the fans again, when will they ever learn?

No i dont think freedom of darkspawn will stop taint from spreading
Or if it will stop the blights
It will just make darkspawn more unpredictable
With blight system you could predict when they will attack but without it you will just create constant blight all over Thedas

it could be done, the character would probably be hooded the entire time, and would have a unique view of the world. even as a companion.

I would rather have a Darkspawn companion like Shale or Sebastian. someone we pick up and get a few loyalty missions for but as the main pc no that would limit the game way to much.

This would probably be the most realistic option. I'd imagine we would be able to choose whether to kill him or recruit him at the start a bit like Zevran. The messenger would probably be the best candidate only problem being that you might of killed him in awakining. And you might contract the taint of him.I would rather have a Darkspawn companion like Shale or Sebastian. someone we pick up and get a few loyalty missions for but as the main pc no that would limit the game way to much.

Playing a gray warden is playing a darkspawn in the making. It's just a long time making.

I'm envisioning some weird Dragon Age-themed version of Octodad. HeroSpawn, maybe?
"Oh my, Mr. Hooded Stranger, what jagged teeth you have!"
"All the better to eat this surfacer food with, human female."
"And oh my, Mr. Hooded Stranger, what a deep, unnatural-sounding voice you have!"
"All the better to be heard by my fellow non-darkspawn, human female."
"And what pale white skin and foul odor you have, Mr. Hooded Stranger!"
"All the better to ... eh, even I'm not buying it at this point."

I would like to play as a Darkspawn.
With BioWare's drive to make romance characters playersexual, it would lead to some awesome moments.

I think that a playable Darkspawn would be more then possible; the nature of the Taint would make things dicey but it would provide BioWare with an interesting take on a PC.
Even if a full fledged SP campaign was out of the question, I see no reason why a mini-DLC or even a MP mode with playable Awakened would be impossible. A village is under attack by Red Templars, a Darkspawn shows up and helps defend the town, the people are saved. Now I doubt that the villagers would run out and give the Awakened high fives, or throw a feast in his honor, but the actions of the Amarantie (sp?) militia proved that even the common everyman is willing to see an ally (even if just one of consequence) when they see one. The fact that the Messenger was able to call out "Don't Shoot!" and the militia listened is proof enough to show that fact.
Yes, the Taint is an issue, but I don't think that having one Awakened fighting a couple battles in defense of a town is automatically going to doom the people, the livestock, and the crops, and the land to instant, total infection. A person infected with Ebola is dangerous, but if a person practices common sense; doesn't operate in close proximity to the infected, avoids sharing food, or clothing with the infected, etc.; they can minimize the danger and chance of catching the disease. Amaranthie (sp?) had Darkspawn all over the place, but if the Warden saves the town, we see in the epilogue slide, that the city is able to make a full recovery and is one of the more profitable sections of Ferelden.

plus if awakened they may become cognizant about how to control the taint themselves, not a hundred percent mind you. but they may be like europeans during the black death, eventually they discover "hygiene" while it won't wipe out they taint, it may limit it somewhat. Besides they could create a bad ass armor set that that is like that of a Plague Doctor's

I'm not opposed to it, but I wouldn't take the option myself. I'm going to be looking at my player character for who knows how many hours, so it would be nice if they didn't induce vomiting.
Also, I don't see how they can work around the whole "pollute everything you touch" angle. Nerds already cuss Bioware out for ignoring it as it is.

As long as my love interest won't turn into a Broodmother, I'm okay with it.
