Joker's not out of the picture. Remember when they were showing 12 minute gameplay on Gamespot, the guy asked the dev about Joker "Bones are as brittle as ever I assume".

The dev then said "Uhh...well...spoilers, spoilers! You'll see that, Joker undergoes some pretty interesting transformations in Mass Effect 2."

and to be a little bit on topic as well, my guess is Garrus. He's worthy because he apparently has a fan club. The only thing I can think of that would make him less probable is that if Tali is also a LI then maybe Bioware thinks that 4 out of 6 of the original squad members is enough. But what do I know? I hope it's Garrus.

ANYWAY. Yes! While the thought of Joker as an LI is interesting, they've made it clear that the only core LIs are squad mates from the past or present. That said, Joker could very well be the female scratching post if anyone wants to get flirty with someone not on their team. In fact, I'd like that. A lot.

That would be more than fine and welcome.  However, since Kelly Chambers is *not* an official LI (as confirmed via the Casey Hudson Best Buy chat), then that would mean a Joker equivalent would not be an official LI either.  They'd be 'flings'/pseudo-romances.  And thus, still leaves open the third slot.

That sounds more like wishful thinking to me.  If the Asari are known to prefer "mating" (and I use that word loosely) with others species rather than their own, how does that make "logical sense?" 

Is it possible?  Sure, but not likely from what we know about their culture..  It would be as Spaghetti Ninja mentioned, a plot hole.

Well, besides the Consort in the first game, were you able to romance anyone outside of your squad? Not that I recall. And the confirmed romances for ME2? All in the squad, save for Ash, Kai, and Liara - who were in your squad in the first game. Romancing someone outside of your squad just doesn't strike me as fulfilling in the least. There's a chance we'll be able to flirt with, say, Joker and Kelly, perhaps something will come to fruition, but I doubt it'll be a full-fledged romance.

At the risk of sounding shallow...At this point, I dont really care who any of the LIs are. If all we're getting is a lame-o Fable'esque black screen with some Oooo Ahhs...and not like what we had in ME1 then I could care less who my Shep "romances" first. If what Im hearing is right though, the Fable'esque "love scene" would be an improvement lol.

He said 'teammates'. It depends on how you see that if it includes only people who fight with you or not.
