I know that every Keeper and his/her First has knowledge of magic, but I'd like to think there are others, not being Keeper and First, that has magic. Does anyone know if we can play as a Dalish mage in DA:I?
Dalish Mage?

It is confirmed that either the mage elf IS a Dalish, or you'll have the ability to choose if you're a Circle mage or Dalish mage. It is confirmed that Dalish elves can be mages though. I'm quite excited for that myself!

That's awesome! I don't think I'd want to be a Circle mage though; I see the Circle as a prison, and I'm all for freedom of mages. A mysterious wandering Dalish mage sounds pretty cool. Can't wait!

It's kind of an iffy thing on Circle Mages, I think. At the end of DA2, the mages had broken from their circles and rebelled against their Templars. The Templars wants to kill all the mages, but the chantry wants to make peace. The Templars are upset with the chantry and break off from them. (That's why there are "Red Templar" enemies to fight in the DA:I 30 Minute gameplay). DA:I starts near the end of the Mage conflict, I think. That's what I've gathered so far, at least.
I would love to play a wandering Dalish mage! That might be my first playthrough. I also can't wait until we can use the Keep. I'd spend so many hours making different world states with the Keep.

Not all mages are abominations resorting to blood magic, and not all Templars are holy and pure, kissing the statue of Andraste's feet. That being said, I'm only nice to Templars who have earned my kindness; either by supporting my views, or by helping mages flee the Circle. I also rarely show sympathy for blood mages. DA2 has such a complicated story, but I like it. Not one side is entirely innocent, but to me, it's about the bigger picture. I'm all for bringing down the corrupt Templars and members of the Chantry, but I am also for bringing down the Circle to free mages. Since Hawke is an apostate (or free, rather), she has no real connection to the Circle, but I'll side with them to get the ball rolling.
I like Merrill, but she makes me so sad when angry at me for wanting to protect her from the mirror. If only there was a way to let her know I was in her clan in DA:O. Oh wait... I can't... because it's a game. Lol
I'll probably use the Keep to create new world states, but after I've had my playthroughs with my imported saves. Either way, a Dalish mage might be my first playthrough, too.

I am more interested in reestablishing the dales. Cause even if the mages loose this war, they just retreat to Tevinter. But the elves have nowhere to go.

At the end of DA:O, there's a possibility of land being given to the Dalish. If you sacrificed yourself, you automatically get the land at your funeral. If you ask for land as your boon if you survive, you get the land. I'd love to see that built on.
(Also, why is the Sabrae clan all the way in Kirkwall when they had land granted to them at the end of DA:O? Just another weird unexplained thing of DA2. I hope DA:I explains this, even in just a codex page.)

Alistair explains it somewhere, if I recall correctly. He says something like: It didn´t work out.
Long story short, the shemlen felt once again threatened by the elves, that is why they left.
