The boarding party wasn't getting off the Reaper without disabling it, and the orbital decay was quick enough to have them worried, so there wouldn't have been time for the Normandy to leave and come back with fusion torches or whatever. I suppose Shepard could've tried to survive the onslaught long enough for them to get thrusters in place, but then what? You've just gained a gigantic husk factory. Great.

Indoctrination? Cerberus sent a research team there before, we seen how that ended up - Reapers can still indoctrinate even if they're dead. The collector base is more viable to study as it isn't a Reaper.

. Didn't Cerberus knew that already before the boardingparty was send ? I mean there was a cerberus team working on the Reaper. You are right ofcourse. TIM has however knowledge of the reaper indotrination, according to the novel and comics. So why send cerberus personel and endanger them. The boarding party wasn't getting off the Reaper without disabling it, and the orbital decay was quick enough to have them worried, so there wouldn't have been time for the Normandy to leave and come back with fusion torches or whatever. . I know all that. But there is is a Reaper in the Collectorbase. Shaped like a human. Ofcourse it is viable to study. Still it is not a Reapership.Indoctrination? I'm not too worried about not being able to study the dead reaper. I'm more concerned that we weren't able to investigate the weapon that killed it. We could've studied that and see if it could be mass produced for the coming reaper invasion.

For that matter, why was the Collector Base Reaper shaped like a human, but all the other Reapers are shaped like Sovereign and Harbinger? Was it an experiment? Was it going to be "changed" to look like any other Reaper later?

The idea - I'm not sure if this was said during an interview or was only in the art book - was that the "core" of a capital-ship Reaper is made to look like the species that was used to make it, and the outer shell - armor, appendages, etc. - is the standard cuttlefish shape.

. That would have been a nice mission. Finding that weapon from a several million years old civilasation. And Hackets team is doing research on it. Than they find the trigger ,activate it by accident and destroy the crucible. I do not like this mission. Something bugs me about it.I'm not too worried about not being able to study the dead reaper. I'm more concerned that we weren't able to investigate the weapon that killed it. We could've studied that and see if it could be mass produced for the coming reaper invasion.
