I know for a fact that desicions in mass effect 1 will afect those in mass effect 2, now when you finish the campaign in the original you get new game + with that char.
Now when the 2nd playthrough is done, does it mean that in mass effect 2 you can choose with one to start from or does it overide the first one, or the second may not even be selected when starting the mass effect 2 campaign?

Each time you finish the game, it creates a seperate save. So you'll be able to choose which one you want to import when you start a new game in ME2.

In the ME2 loading screen you can choose to load an ME1 character or to re-load an ME2 character. They are separate functions, and do not interfere with each other.

Starting NG+ with a character you imported from ME1 will not override the first game you played with that imported character, because you will be "importing" the completed ME2 character, not the same ME1 end-game file.

Every completed playthrough is a new save.

What you see in New Game + is the savegames ME2 will take.

I think the interesting question (and what he's getting at here) is how a new game+ playthrough in ME2 will handle imported ME1 decisions. In the first game, your character stats carried over to new game+ but all your choices had to be made again. When you play through ME2 a second time, can you still bring in your ME1 data, or would doing so require you to start again, in essence performing another "first run" of ME2? In other words, when you replay ME2, are you forced to do it without your ME1 background information?

No, you'll essentially be importing the ME1 file with all your ME2 experience and items added on top of it.

Like i said ^^^, you won't just have the "Import ME1 character" option. You'll also have the "Import ME2 character" option, which, since it contained the back story from ME1, will contain all that data again.

Alright, cool. I just wasn't sure if ME1 data became a permanent part of the save or got reset with the ME2 choices.
