Its only 1/3 of the options, or less considering it requires Isabella returning, Hawke being a horrible person, somewhat of an idiot (cut scene even all but says so), and forgetting horn head had no claim on the book besides the Qun since the Orlesians never made the hand over, meaning Isabella stole from the Orlesians and not Qunari.

Also wouldn't be that hard to off him since their is always a chance he promptly got killed in the war with Tevintar.

As for Sten it isn't really that hard to believe that once the last people are trying to retreat, somebody opens the cage on the logic he might slow a few darkspawn down, Sten survives, kills a few more people to get back his sword, and then goes back to Par Vollen with a copy of the story of the 5th Blight.

I agree that in the large majority of cases, where the player completes both games, the Arishok from DA2 is dead and Sten is alive. However there will still be plenty of players where one or both of those conditions is different.

You can also fight Sten one on one if your approval drops, can he actually be killed that way? If you never return his sword does he go back to Par Vollen?

Somehow the WC's epic weapons and armor disappear from their possession so I don't see why a sword that isn't that special beyond it being Sten's would be kept in the Warden's possession.  Also its hard to say that Sten never peeked in the camp supply packs if you got the sword but didn't give it to him, and doesn't just take it when he leaves.

Also honestly didn't know that was even possible, but were really getting into low probability if their isn't a key event that forces it to come up.

Insisting on using "][" when referring to DA2 really annoys me.

ANYWAY, I think it's likely that they'll deal with this potential problem at a later time, as I don't expect there will be a lot of interactions with the Qunari, much less their military leader.

Wait...so all this time people were talking about Dragon Age 2 and not Dragon Age: Bracket-bracket?! Where have I been?!

I found it quite easy to have approval problems with Sten. At the start he disagreed with me a lot and if you head for the sacred ashes early it can hit that point very easily. But after fighting and defeating him you can tell him to fall into line and gain approval, which I imagine most people would do. You can also tell him to leave the party, not sure what, if anything, the epilogues say about that. I think you can also kill him but may be wrong.

Not giving his sword back is much more likely however. Its not just a question of giving it to him, its a question of finding it. From memory it was moderately difficult to find and I can see a lot of people skipping that depending on the order they visited areas or simply not speaking to companions religiously at camp. I don't know what the epilogue said about him if you don't find it however.

I rather have less references to the past then more just to keep the game manageable.  Wrex really got a raw deal with how little he is used in both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 and I rather just have Sten not used then be a simple cameo because they have to work the situation to work if he died or not.

I wouldnt mind that outcome and they could always say that Sten escaped from the cage due to a good Samaritan letting him free when the darkspawn approached. Although they're both giant warlike cultures who both hid their females from the players for a bit of time, thats about as similar as it gets. One is unified and absolutely committed to discipline and order, the other is constantly fighting with one another and self destructive. Its as if they took the two races and wanted to make them polar opposites.

I liked Sten well enough but how will he fit in DAI?  I know everyone has their favourite companions but that doesn't justify bringing them in just to have them there.  I used to be all on board with bringing characters back, but the more I thought about it the less it appealed to me.  I want to meet new people.  Just my opinion however.

Sten could easily have been let out of the cage by someone else, though. Once the darspawn attack, I am sure Lothering would have needed Sten outside the cage.

Technically Sten can't die during DA:O, you may "leave him to die", but that doesn't mean he actually dies.

True, but with other arguments around here I believe for a lot of people that would still mean he is dead.

Assuming we see an arishok in the next game at all.

But I think it would be easy to deal with. Have one model for Stenishock, and one for not stenishok. Change the colouring fo the body paint if it's an arishok we haven't seen, keep it the same if its the one from kirkwall. Have mark hildreth voice stenishock and the other actor voice the other ones.

In general terms that is an easy way to handle it, but there are other concerns as well for there probably is a word budget for the "Qunari Military Leader" so if they are to have two different characters for the same role it would mean they would need to either cut the dialogue down by half to fit both characters in or they might even just cut another character from the game.  Its the same with a different skin, it would probably mean another armor set might be removed from the game because the graphic designers have so much work to do something needs to go.

I am not saying its impossible, but I just don't think its an easy solution.

Well considering the comics made him to be a fairly important person within Thedas (not to mention him being a Hero of the Blight as well), I wouldn't at all be surprised or go "Jeez, the world isn't THAT small" if he were to appear as Arishok.
