Anyone tried this out (with the mod obviously)? How does he compare with, say, Alistair in squee-factor? ![]()

You can actually have an option for anal.
Okay. Sorry, just had to.
I've never tried it before, but I've heard it's really good and it has quite a lot of support, plus it's VA'd. Just try it, nothing to lose really.

I have the mod and Ser Gilmore is a sweet guy. Toyed with the romance a bit to try it out. You get two options down a 'romance-type' path. If you want the full blown hearts and candy type relationship, make sure you don't have a romance active with any other character. While it won't impact the other character you are romancing, (like Alistair or Leliana, for example) since, being vanilla and made to go with the game, they don't even recognize Gilmore's presence in the warden's love life, and thus, no 'jealousy' talk will trigger with them, it WILL impact Gilmore immensely and you WILL get a 'jealousy' convo with him. He will become angry and end the relationship, lose massive amounts of approval (I had him at +100 and he went from +100 to -60 in one conversation). He won't leave, but that effectively ends his love relationship with you and makes him 'hostile'. I am unsure if you can buy back his approval, he has no specific gifts installed in that allow for massive approval gains like the other companions and gains only +5 per gift. Feastday gifts work with him, but only add +5 per.
There is also the 'open relationship' where you are basically 'friends with benefits' where you grab what pleasure you can while you're still alive to appreciate it. This will not trigger the 'jealousy' talk, but it also lacks the depth of feeling expressed when you are in a 'love' state with the companion. Also, the other companion you may be romancing doesn't even react to whatever you got going on in Morrigan's tent with him, so again, you can achieve this state without any repercussions on the original romance (that I have seen).
While Gilmore has banters with the party, (and may even have some that reflect the romance, I am unsure if he gets any romance specific ones). In that, I mean, like with Alistair everyone makes comments about the warden and Alistair being together either to tease him or to encourage him, really impacting with the player's experience. No one responds to the Gilmore romance in a similar fashion. Also, while a couple of the conversations in camp (particularly with Morrigan, Leliana and Wynne mention Alistair) I don't recall getting any similar with Gilmore. One of the reasons I don't find the alternate romance partners (Leliana, Zevran or Morrigan) very interesting is the lack of commentary from companions (as compared to the Alistair one). You do get some commentary/questions from the others, but not nearly the same amount of interest/depth as with Alistair.
