Fair point, I concede your victory :) Guess it just makes sense to me that, after everything they've been through, most of my Shepard would be quite weary od everything.

Shepard would have really bad PTSD if she survived. Especially if he/she missed the reputation checks.

That much is certain. And I imagine my canon Shepard will have serious PTSD, seeing all the things she screwed and survived anyway. But then, I have plans for her still, so... no rest for the wicked, as they say :)

Renegade Shepard is a survivor. Renegade Shepard must keep moving..., can't let reapers win..., can't let reapers deny her final goal to be with Liara again.

My Shepard's goal is to buy Conrad Verner a beer. After all, Shepard's survival is tied inextricably to his by the gossamer strings of the mass effect.

Only if you choose certain dialogue options (paragon tended to be more fatalistic throughout, renegade more determined). Some of my Shepards did, some didn't. It's out-of-character for the latter to spontaneously choose to manufacture their own death.

Same here. My Shepards were fighting with survival as their goal, so it was totally out of character for them to choose any of those self-sacrificial options.

Faced with that situation, what would be in character for your Shepard? Refusing and hoping for a miracle?

Ironically, the dialogue for Refuse is the closest to what my Shepards would say, but it's not an option for me.

I'd settle for surviving Destroy and not walking into the explosion. That just seemed crazy and suicidal, shooting an explosive tank from close range. You're supposed to walk away from explosions, Shepard, not towards them.

Yeah that has always bothered me. The Shepard I was accustomed to playing would never of done that. I feel I was playing her stunt double.

I always wondered what happened to my shep's biotics at that moment. Why not just singularity/warp the tube.

Meh.

Best guess? He was trying to cauterize his wounds.

It, evidently, worked. :wizard:

So here's the question once again. What would 'your Shepard' have done in that situation? Curl into a ball and die?

Curl into a ball and die. Sounds like thats what yours would do.

Mine would shoot the tube from a distance to avoid the blast

@David
Nope. What Sarendoctrinator said. Shoot the tube from a distance. As we can do all the way up the ramp.

Or is that not heroic enough?

This is my number two reason for destroy. https://www.youtube....h?v=TOsshD4-pR0

My Shepard just wanted to retire on a beach.

Self sacrifice, then? The Catalyst does say Shepard is part Synthetic.

And evidently, glowbrat is wrong in his estimation about what effect the wave would have on Shepard.

Just because someone tells you to kill yourself doesn't mean you have to stick the damn pistol in your mouth and pull the trigger (or, rather, run straight into the explosion as circumstance would have it).

He tells you it's going to kill you and has no reason to lie. Shepard has every reason to believe him.

Maybeyou do. Still doesn't provide any reason to intentionally blow yourself up.

He implies you would die, versus, say, Control, where he says you would in as many words. Is that a reason to blow yourself up and guarantee it? That's like shooting yourself because a doctor walked up and said you had cancer - no questioning it, no second opinions, just whip out a pistol and end it on his word. Does that make any sense to you?

Do not let this be misconstrued to think I pick Destroy solely because Shepard has a chance to survive it.

He has every reason to lie. Maybe he, you know, wants to reapers to keep on going.

Seriously, he tells Shepard to either jump into a beam of energy, grab onto an electrical conduit, or shoot a tube that may disable the crucible.

If he wanted Shepard dead, he could have done it a thousand different ways. If the options were just a way to kill Shepard, it makes utterly no sense for him to induce them as anything but a button to activate the Crucible and kill the Reapers with no consequences or setbacks.

You're still not explaining how "This pipsqueak says the Crucible will target my cybernetics" translates into "I want to blow myself up now, even though four minutes ago I was still determined to survive."

Given the rushed mess of an ending I wonder if they were waffling on having Shepard die, went for it, but then reversed their position when it was too late to change it and added the breath scene.

The point at hand is that 'your Shepard' still chooses to do something that is likely to kill him. Regardless of how close he stands to the tube. The Catalyst says he will die.

Choosing to self-sacrifice.

A pity they didn't take advantage of EC to fix that.
