I knew it was going to be creepy, but Dr. Frankenstein's encounter with Lily Frankenstien and Dorian Grey was almost too much. That's a level of personal harshness I wasn't expecting. Helluva visual that ended with.I finished season 2 of Penny Dreadful. Great season. 8/10.

Really interesting doc about a group of Viking enthusiasts. It follows the Jomsborg army, a group of international Viking historical fighters and history buffs. As they travel across Europe participating in large scale reenactments and festivals of the Viking age. And honestly I thought it was going to be a bit lame, but both the quality of the documentary and the subject matter pleasantly surprised as we take a look into the lives of people essentially living in another time. 7/10

It can seem slow-paced and it won't necessarily revolutionize Films of War, but if you're looking for a good watch, you'll get it.

This 1983 documentary film by Errol Morris made the case for the innocence of Randall Dale Adams, convicted and sentenced to death (sentence later commuted to life) of the murder of a police officer in Dallas in 1976. Eschewing any voice-over narration, Morris uses interviews and reenactments to argue that five witnesses perjured themselves due to compromised personal motives; by the end, David Harris, who was the key witness for the prosecution, pretty much admits having killed the officer and framing Adams for it. The film created a major stir in its day and was the key impetus in getting Adams' case dismissed.
After Adams was released, he and Morris ended up in a legal battle over who had the rights to his story; the case was settled out of court, granding Adams sole use over the story of his wrongful conviction. For some, this seeming ingratitude may put a damper on the film's power, but for me it deepens that impact. A victim doesn't need to be noble or unselfish or likeable to be a victim, and the demand for justice remains the same regardless. Adams is hardly alone in his circumstance; since 2001, there have been 41 DNA exonerations in Texas alone.
I've always been fascinated by movies that have tangible, real-world consequences, and The Thin Blue Line most certainly qualifies in that regard. For me, it worked beautifully as both investigative journalism and as cinema.

An interesting, if albeit a little dry, terror-espionage thriller. Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays the leader of a German anti-terror group as they try and identify a recent half Russian, half Chechen Islamic immigrant that has suddenly appeared in Hamburg. Suspicions arise as to who this man is and to his motives, and what other bigger fish he could lead to. It becomes a race against the clock as both German and US agencies try to lay a trap for suspected terrorist financiers. P.S.H. gives a very well done performance (no surprise there) as well as Willem Dafoe and Rachel McAdams. And while it is a bit slow and stiff I did find it engaging towards the end. However this is not a spy, sleuth thriller. No one dies, there are no covert ops, or gun play. But it is worth a watch if you enjoy methodical story driven thrillers.
7/10

I finished season 2 of Penny Dreadful. Great season. 8/10.
Didn't we have a thread for Penny Dreadful, or did it die the usual death of show threads?
I screamed at my television when it ended, I wanted more!!!
Season 3 is apparently only getting nine episodes.
As for movies, I watched Gone Girl and attempted to watch John Wick. I only got about five minutes into that movie before I had to stop watching it, that puppy was too cute. ![]()

Tom Hopper, Ryan Kwanten, James Norton, Charlie Murphy, Ken Duken. I love this kind of movie, but warning I do not watch these for the acting. Thorough enjoyment and no big plot that confuses anything. Just some lads trying to go home. 6/10 unless you like Norsmen then it is probably as much as 8/10.

A Less-Than-Noble Charlie gets a nasty surprise, and finds a way to reverse it...at a price. It's a bit goofier and less realistic than Don Bluth's earlier films, but I'm enjoying it. VAs include Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise(again), and Don's Signature art style is still satisfying.
If something like Secret of NIMH is too downbeat for you, this may be a better fit.

The Flashpoint Paradox

I think I've watched this one the most out of all the DC Animated Films. I just really like it.
It's also the last really good one. As the following Batman and Justice League films weren't very good imo. Hopefully Gods and Monsters fixes that.
But yeah, Flashpoint Paradox is super good. I luv it.
Thomas Wayne Batman is such an *******. He's great.

I love this movie. Even though you already know how it ends, it still manages to keep you at the edge of your seat. Not to mention the music is great, especially that liftoff scene.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have as sudden urge to go play Kerbal Space Program.

Seems I'm not the only person watching DC Movies today. ![]()
Anyway again DC knocks it out of the park with another stellar animated film. No spoilers in this mini review however. Superman and Co in this alternate universe version of the JL are as much monsters as they are heroes, though Superman is only as such by association, watch the movie to get my meaning by that. The movie takes you on a 90 minute who did it ride, with lots of DC universe cameo's of people who you might not recognize right away but mostly do exist in the normal canon (Whatever that is now at the time of this post). The story was well done, by the time what's really going on is revealed you're almost at the end of the film.
In closing I'll say this, a Superman is made not born.
