Firstly

x-men-wolverine-box-set.jpg

The Wolverine remains my favorite of the lot.

Secondly

I still can't figure out if I love this movie for its rampant stupidity, or loathe it entirely.

But basically this is one of if not the strangest film in the Godzilla series.

Because stuff like this happens.

No seriously. This happens in the movie!

I went to the AFI Docs "Festival" (there was no dancing as far as I could tell, and damnit, a festival should have dancing!) and saw 4 documentaries:
  • Of Many - Short film about the Imam and Rabbi at NYU that work together at disasters around the US. Sappy, too long, but glad I saw it.
  • The Agreement - A story of the negotiation of a border crossing between Serbia and Kosovo in 2012. That was quite good. Eye-opening at how petty and low key diplomacy can be.
  • E-Team - A film about the 3 members of the Emergency Team from Human Rights Watch. This was quite good, and chillingly graphic, with some footage on each member operating in Kosovo, Libya, and Syria. It's hard to believe people from either side can work together after conflicts like that, but they did in The Agreement. Fingers crossed for Iraq.
  • The Internet's Own Boy - The story of Aaron Swartz, a young internet pioneer/prodigy who committed suicide in 2013 after he was charged with 11 felonies for downloading a mass of research document from the JStor at MIT.

How to describe this movie? Chilling, disturbing, eerie and beautiful. Definitely not for everyone. But for me, it's one of the best movies in recent years.
