I watched Maleficent the other day. Meh.
Yesterday I watched a terrible B-horror movie called Extraterrestrial. Double meh.
The story and characters didn't do much for me. But the visuals were stunning.

Totally agreed. The story was really weak, in my opinion. I can see a reimagining of the Disney cartoon, but it seems like, outside of Maleficent, every other character was worse. You'd think that someone would also be improved in this version, but nope.
It was gorgeous though.
This was the last stop in the "Rewatching the old DVD's I found in my closet two weeks ago Sunday." Tour.
Awesome movie!

watched it yesterday. Good detective / courthouse movie.
Amazingly my score is exactly the same as IMDb this time! 7.5/10

John Wick with Neo. Really good, Neo back in form. Good stuff.
Got my Plasma Tv hooked up again now. So I decided to watch something on it.

I've seen MoS a few times now.
It's very flawed. But there's some stuff to like.
Which is more than I can say for Superman Returns and its 2 things to like (Not counting the amazing teaser trailer)

Just the first one? HOW CAN YOU RESIST THE GREATNESS OF GENERAL ZOD??!!
As for the reboot, I didn't really like it that much myself when I saw it.
Is that ^ pic from a Superman movie?

Just gonna be blunt here and say that I thought Man of Steel was bad. Like, really bad. The huge plot holes, stupid characters, shameless product placements, and ridiculous DBZ-style fights were too much for me. It's a real shame because the trailer looked good and I liked Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, and Michael Shannon in the movie, but... ugh. Just hated that movie.
Not really - It suffers from insufferably bad written melodrama that gets to a point where it becomes silly, especially with Russel Crowe's tendency to ham it up a notch. If one tries not to take it too seriously, ignore that it isn't that well-shot, then one will probably get the same enjoyment with the likes 300.

300 is mindless and an over-exaggeration.
Gladiator shows the true nature of Colosseums and slavery in ancient times, and how things changed from Marcus Aurelius to Commodus. Maximus having melodrama isn't a bad thing for the movie (sad for himself). This film is called "GLADIATOR" you know.

Nah it really doesn't -- The acting and actual tension feels forced preposterous and incredibly hammy for it to be taken seriously. This is a thing, in particular, Russel Crowe is pretty good at. Looking past all the angst, amongst all the characters who spend most of the entire movie being absolute dunces, one will see how flat and boring they are. Melodrama is not good drama, it's bad drama. It's one long, stiff monologue with sporadic intervals of way too fast combat that gets lost in terrible cinematography.
The way it tries to present the horrors of Ancient Rome feels about as tokenly hollow as that of Oliver Stone's ******-drama Alexander.
As we have already established -- the cinematography is just awful; The colors are mud tones at the drab end of the palette, and it somehow gives the impression that it was filmed on a day, where the entire film crew was on anti-depressants. The dark layout and a lack of detail in the long shots helps obscure shabby special effects (the Colosseum in Rome looks like a model from a computer game), and the characters bring no cheer: They're bitter, vengeful, depressed twats.
Looking back at it now -- And it is at best an okay movie to watch sometimes like say 300 if you just need some mindless action scenes or Joanquin Phoenix (whom actually was the best thing about Gladiator).

Alright.
So name some of your favorite 'historical' and if you like any 'superhero' movies.

I generally don't like either much, really.
But that would be generalizing since I watch a lot of films and good films are good films, and I don't really like being tied by genre and actually really love when films try to truly innovate with the concept of genre film.
Historical dramas tend not to be faithful to source matierial at the expense of the drama, which isn't a bad thing, but they usually don't do it very well.
Most films I can think of that might be somewhat historical, are only loosely based around history and not specific events or people.
I have, however, watched a few shows that were solid and set in historical time periods.
I've watched a lot of films, and still shuffling between quite a few, so if I do get around to recall some in context of your request then I'd be happy to oblige.

This is the first time I've heard anybody say anything bad about Gladiator xD
Interesting.
Can't argue with anything there since you study this ![]()
Btw, if you have similar feelings about LOTR/The Hobbit...
Please don't tell me. I'd like to remain in ignorance and not doubt Santa Claus Peter Jackson in all that cinema-talk ![]()

I watched 300 rise of an empire.
It's an OK movie, the combat is nice but on the flip side, the story is horrible, there's hardly any Spartans, no THIS IS SPARTA!!!, the Spartans still look ******, and so and and so forth.
The best part was when that guy and woman did it in the ship. (I can't remember their names since they're so forgettable).
