This is the first time I've heard anybody say anything bad about Gladiator xD

Interesting.

Can't argue with anything there since you study this

Btw, if you have similar feelings about LOTR/The Hobbit...

Please don't tell me. I'd like to remain in ignorance and not doubt Santa Claus Peter Jackson in all that cinema-talk

Well, it is still my opinion, but I can safely say that the cinematography is nothing to be heralded. I liked the LOTR movies -- much like the old Star Wars movies they can be watched again, even if they carry flaws. The Old Trilogy's flaw mostly being Return of the Jedi, showcasing a rather lame conclusion, with a rather jarring schizophrenic tone in relations to the much better predecessor Emprie Strikes Back, and where an all powerful-inter-galactic-empire can be brought down by a bunch of mid-twenties and their pet gophers.

I don't remember many things I disliked about the Lord of the Rings films, except maybe for the arbitrary eagles and Christopher Lee's sections being cut out of the theatrical version. I haven't seen all of the Hobbit films yet, but so far I'm not "all" that keen on Freeman. I like him, but sadly his acting is falling into bad habit of him playing the same bubbling, stuttering, glib, goofball which has been recurring in his other performances such as in Fargo or Sherlock.

Oh sure, it's your opinion. But you know how much I value it xD

And yes, Christopher Lee taken out of the Theatrical Version is a crime amongst crimes.

Even Lee complained.

That's why you EE all the time. If you don't EE you're a dirty casual

Oh as for Freeman. I can't say the same since I've only ever seen him in the Hobbit. It matches Bilbo really well. He is kind of a stuttering, glib, goofball in the books until his gradual development kicks in :D

Waiting for Hobbit/Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Collection so I can do the ultimate marathon.

As we have already established -- the cinematography is just awful; The colors are mud tones at the drab end of the palette, and it somehow gives the impression that it was filmed on a day, where the entire film crew was on anti-depressants. The dark layout and a lack of detail in the long shots helps obscure shabby special effects (the Colosseum in Rome looks like a model from a computer game)

I don't think "we" established anything except that you have a subjective opinion.

It won a BAFTA for cinematography, and an Academy Award for special effects.

If you didn't like the movie, that's fine, but it's hardly reflective of how people who work in and study film (I do both) feel about the movie.

Thank you for repeating the bleeding obvious which I even bothered pointing out in my earlier post. Am I obligated to put out a big neon sign whenever doing so, just in case people thought I wasn't actually talking on behalf of myself? The "we've already established" was meant as a tongue-in-cheek response to the other poster and I apologize for not having it live up to be so, I guess.

Well how can I possibly argue with this? Winning some gold-plated britannium statuettes does not necessitate an example on universal quality simply because a selective committee thought so -- If Tarantino calls a film good based around his impressions on its visual aesthetics, it doesn't necessarily mean I have to agree or that's he's right (despite working with film), even if he handed the director a figurine he made himself out of clay. I have plenty of acquaintances, who work with film, that generally have split feelings on auteur directors, as to whether they are actually artist, or just pretentious -- This is in regards to the quality in the various departs of the films, whether it be the visuals, shooting or writing etc. I can recall a few critics, who didn't share the enthusiasm on Gladiator like the Academy Awards, like me.

But the point has been made -- I didn't like it, and it definitely wasn't deserving of the Oscar it got at the time. The End.

Let's derail this no further.

Great direction with the choreography and action scenes, but a terribly simplistic plot. If only it had a better story, I probably wouldn't have felt like I wanted to leave before the ending of the movie.

Probably one of the greatest films ever made. People can say what they want about Ridley Scott but this film and Alien are top grade cinema.

What are people saying about Ridley Scott? That he's whitewashing Egyptians? Blade Runner was really boring and extremely weird to me. Everything from the nonsensical action scenes to the plot and the rape scene. The replicants are so inept and clownish you wonder if they're a danger at all.

I know Guardians is. Did you not like Nightcrawler? I'm dying to watch it based on Gyllenhaal's acting in the trailer alone.

Fury starts out ok and has nice private ryan style war scenes, but quickly turns into a conservative, bible-touting, america **** yea film glorifying war, machoism and rape, with a cringe worthy rookie cliche story and mary-sue brad pitt character.

What kind of argument is that? I don't even know which point or movie you're referring to.

It's not an argument obviously. It's me wondering if you're being serious or just a really strange parody of BioWareMod02.

Sometimes all the fascination about a movie is because of certain scenes, like Rape. The whole fanboyism of "The Girl with Dragon Tattoo" was for that I assume.

Seen Guardians of the Galaxy lately.

Horrible. Plot was nearly inexistant, action was uninspiredly boring, the characters bland and sometimes downright retarded ("I will go commit planeticide because I'm a zealot and you all deserve my rightious fury, NOW DIE *stops* y r u dance?") and the whole rest just as bad (flying around in open space with just a face-covering mask and leather coat, because durrrrr).

I'm not much into comics, but don't they usually have more substance than that?

Only really good comic movie I've seen so far is Watchmen.

I confess I was afraid when I rated GotG 8.75/10. I was afraid if I rate it 8 or lower Marvel fans may banish me! In second thought it was like Fantastic 4 movies.

Now hold on a minute. I don't know if you've seen Blade Runner or not but I can assure you that the "rape" scene plays no part in that film's greatness, and it certainly isn't the reason I love the film if that's what you were trying to imply. There are no doubt plenty of sociopaths out there who enjoy such things but they're probably watching "torture porn" schlock like The Hills Have Eyes, not Blade Runner.
