Finally watched Avatar. Not a poor film at any rate, but still could not get past the storyline where grizzled war vets deceive, plan, and execute an assault on a tree. Really? I place it with Ferngully, and move along to other fare.

More hilarious is that they want a sequel

Manga is like 100 times better in every single way. The manga has a non linear story with government conspiracy, gangs, psychics, religious sects, scientific projects and more.

Tetsuo is not just an evil kid who is killing everything, he gets extensive development. Kaneda gets development and doesn't try to turn Tetsuo back to being his friend especially after all he did. All of the characters, Kei, Kai the colonel and the white kids get extensive development.

We actually see Akira in the manga and who he is and how he became what he is.

This movie is a slap to the face in comparison to the source material. But I never saw it as a proper adaptation anyway.

Don't watch movies if you're very attached to series/manga/comics. If so you will be disappointed every time. Each movie is just 2 hours, writers/directors can't include and use everything.

Well I actually planned to watch the movies first, but as time went by I got to the manga first. I read the manga half way then watched the anime with my brothers.

Well, In war movies, a side is good guys and the other is bad guys. Most of war movies are Nationalistic/Patriotic. Japanese, American, Russian, German etc....

Don't confuse them with being racist.

THere are films though like Das Boot, Apocolypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, and THe Longest Day, which are much more about the horror of war, and effects on both sides, than a nationalist agenda. My primariy problem with American Sniper is that theh portray the murder of the other side as a noble and good pursuit. When the film portrays all Iraqis as mercliess killers, then you appraoch a point of pure racism. THe war was never black and white, which the movie shows it as. Not to mention that the real CHrist Kyle was a huge racist in real life say that ¨“I only wish I had killed more/ loved what I did … It was fun. I had the time of my life. Finally, seeing kids whipped into a frenzy, saying they wish to ¨Torture some ragheads/Shoot some muzzies¨, is soem of the most disgusting things I have heard c ome out of people

Believe the term 'rednecks' actually denotes one that is used to working out in the sun, though racial and culturally this term has come to mean many things. But when this term is used in the manner in which it appears to be currently, it opens a whole lot of bad context that does not seem proper for BSN.

And while the South has had its problems, recent history shows more of this problem elsewhere. Now, I have been living here in Mississippi on/ off since '73, and I would not trade places or return to previous areas (ie; Arizona, Illinois, West Virginia) with the exception of visits to friends and family. Proud to live here, as we seem to have a smidgeon of folks with common sense, are among the most generous people in the nation, and try to advance thought; not dwell in the past decades and century.

Paul Harvey stated this somewhat better many years ago:

Spoiler

Now, I have not seen the film in question yet, but have heard far more good than bad. I still wait to see other reviews, and gather more information of the depiction of the South, military, and others such things I hold rather dear personally. And as one that served, though never in a time of war, I am proud of what we do, as well as the men and woman that volunteer to allow others to enjoy their freedoms, including life without tyranny, oppression, and persecution like those living in these distant lands.

Now back to films....

Ah, sorry bout that. I mean rednecks as a referal to the kind of kids that are pregnant at 16, wear confederate shirts, and were just put in jail for threatening their neihbor with a gun. Didnt mean to make a judgement on the south

Some think the main character's portrayal was left that way to show how somebody like that actually is. From what I know, he was quite a scary guy IRL, and the movie is his pov on things. Eastwood is republican, but isn't known for having the kind of ideals the main character had.

More worrying so many root for him.

Last film I watched was Captain Harlock. Not bad, but they really butchered the main character from the classical one. Also made the BSG reboot optimistic by comparison. Needed more hope.

Yet you do it again. This kind of stereotyping is prejudicial at best; bigoted at worst.

Kids from almost every corner on the globe are involved in sex way too early. The Confederate flag is a symbol of independence which has been misused by some to mean something else. Gun crime seems to dominate elsewhere; not the South. Etc.

If you wish to see some war films of merit, I recommend these:

* The Lost Battalion - a rare tale from WWI.
* Band of Brothers - a much better story of WWII than the extreme views depicted in Schindler's List.
* A Bridge Too Far - WWII anti-war film
* We Were Soldiers - my fave film of the Vietnam conflict.

Now I like Eastwood, but many of his films are depressing; another reason I wait.

Well it is what they refer to themselves as (highschool is a strange place). Personally, Ill keep to my own type of war films, no offense
