Not a Superhero movie. The title is misleading.

Whoever went into Birdman thinking it was a superhero movie is obviously not the target audience. Read up about a movie before you watch folks. That's what IMDB is for....

No. I didn't watch it.

About IMDB. There is a ESRB section for each movie that says how much filth that movie has! I should attend to it for less trouble in the future...

Also Wikipedia page for every movie has a plot section that is very brief and useful to see if you like the movie or not.

Just watched

I found the film quite enjoyable for what it is. Though I was a bit mad how dumb the humans were.

Harry Potter 4 - Am pleased at the more serious turn the series has taken, though I never had any empathy for the character that was sacrificed to save the lead. While the films still need deeper characters, as a whole they are improving. 7/10

Gettysburg (1993)

a 270 minute labor of love from Ted Turner and writer/director Robert Maxwell with a  cast almost as big as the battle it depicts

Standout performance is by Jeff Daniels who plays Col. Joshua Chamberlain

Daniel's mustache is real, Tom Berenger's beard is not

9.5/10 (docked for length and some uneven acting)

Most people don't get that it's actually a satire..

So I've watched this movie multiple times and it's always a blast. It's basically a Korean verision of The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly set in the late 20's early 30's and with a more comedic spin.

7/10

Titles can be misleading. I expected it to be a superhero movie when I first heard the name of the film as well. But I almost always look up reviews for a film before watching, and RT had a good summary of the plot on their site.

I did before I read anything else. :P

Anyway...

Very cool premise for this film. Unfortunately, while the first half is interesting and explores a wide range of themes and brings up questions we all ask ourselves, the second half devolves into just another boring horror movie that does nothing new, abandons all of the mature themes that came before it, and pretty much ruins anything the film might have had going for itself up until that point.

I would like to see a movie with these themes revisited in the future with a more realistic and non-horror take on them. A psychological thriller with this concept and ideas would have likely been very entertaining and perhaps even memorable.

Dredd

A good Judge Dredd film

basically a 90 minute action sequence

Karl Urban is appropriately laconic and Lena Headey is sexy even with a nasty scar on her face

8/10

It's loosely based on the Frank Miller/Chris Claremont Miniseries from the early 80s so even the source material is good

Eww, Frank Miller

Frank Miller used to be really good.

I say "used to", because he's totally banana-balls crazy now. The Dark Knight Returns is one of the greatest Batman, nay, one of the greatest comic book stories of all time.

Personally, I prefer Alan Moore, but I'll gladly give Frank Miller his due where it's deserved.

Speaking of Alan Moore:

I adore the movie adaptation for Watchmen (especially since Alan Moore's stories have had generally poor film interpretations). It's also by FAR the most accurate and faithful comic book movie ever, changing only one major part of the plot and Nite Owl II's costume. A hefty chunk of the dialogue in the movie is ripped straight from the pages of the book.
