Pleased to meet you. :) The Under Montreal bit was neat. I forget which show it was, but I believe the history channel had a whole series on underground tunnels and such around the world, very cool stuff.

Oh, this is a treat! I'd better savour the moment before you're scared off again

And that is no understatement. Back in the day(at least on the ME forums), it seemed rare to see a BioWare post, not to mention multiple ones. Nice to have a thread like this.

The show is called "Secrets of the Underworld" or something to that effect. Probably similar but not quite. Anyway, I watched a bunch of it while working out at a fitness club cool enough to allow me to switch their televisions from MTV to History last summer and since it was the middle of the day it was even actual history shows and not reality television. :P I saw that episode about Montreal, I think. Cool stuff.

And here I was expecting to see pictures of a subway/metro/whatever they call it in Canada.

Metro! And "métro" in French, so we're pretty consistent on that one here. =)

We actually have an underground city (the shopping centers & main metro stations downtown are linked underground in various groups), then the metro, and the actual sewer system underground to finish it off.

Hey Ann, I just saw your interview from a snippet of Chasing Atlantis thanks to ElitePinecone and the twitter thread here on the forums. Always nice to "meet" someone else who was weened on Star Trek. I was born when TNG was and that show was probably the first thing I ever saw on TV as a baby. Loved your explanation about science fiction's beautiful what-ifs. Sci-fi's ability to make me imagine greater has gotten me through some tough scrapes in life as I know it has for so many others.

Hello Ann, good to meet you. I just saw the same YouTube interview that JeffZero mentioned (thanks for linking it, Elite Pinecone), and really enjoyed it. Cheers for sharing your thoughts on SF, I couldn't agree more :) I got into sci-fi as a girl (long time ago now!) because I loved the endless possibilities it presented ... and the fact that SF does give us actual, if very unlikely, possibilities, as opposed to the 'plausible impossibilities' of fantasy (though I enjoy that genre too).  Anyway, hope to hear more from you soon. Take care :)

I took that for the first (or second?) time last weekend. Was neat being in a metro for the first time since.. several years maybe, in Toronto. Nuit Blanche was fun, even though I was just damn tired by the end.

~~~
Anyway, hi Ann!
And in general, thanks for the kind comments on the Chasing Atlantis video! (I'm consolidating here to let the Twitter thread stay on topic.)
I'm pretty petrified during interviews usually, but the Chasing Atlantis crew were fabulous, and I got to talk about science fiction and my love of Star Trek which did a lot towards putting me at ease.  :D
...my love of Star Trek ...
I would love to see characters like Garak, Quark or Dukat in the next Mass Effect.
Mass Effect, like Star Trek, is at it's best when the story focuses on great and complex characters.
Do you have something similiar to the 'Go' train that Toronto has? I only ask since the last time I was in Montreal was 1978 for a friends wedding.
I believe the commuter train network is along those lines.
Hey Ann (and crew!) great to see some new life here!
Here in Portland Oregon (I guess "Portlandia" to the rest of the world these days) We've our own underground. Not quite as elabrotate or as extensive as yours in Montreal, but has just as dark a history. These are also called the "Shanghai Tunnels".  You can guess why. It's a sealed area and there are a number of tours that exist that will take you through them and give you the history.
Best of luck to you and the rest of the team on the new project. Enjoy the coming thaw! (yikes what a winter!)
Aaand I'm derailing this topic somewhat to express all my envy at your being in Portland, because that means you can go to Greg Rucka's launch for Lady Sabre & the Pirates of the Ineffable Aether (shut up auto-correct, that IS how they spell it!). SO much envy!
And speaking of coming thaw, two day snowstorm ongoing at the moment, wooo!
Cool. Thanks for the reply.
Wow, actually I looked them up and they're not quite the same.
The GO system seems to be mainly above ground and a bit more... furnished? (Their trains have bathrooms. Woah.)
We have an underground system (seating only) and an above ground system for the off island areas and places further off). The underground one is not as fancy as the newer trains on our above ground system, etc. But... no bathrooms. (And Via Rail is everywhere, like Amtrak in the US, and is a separate entity.)
Yeah, research nerd. Occupational hazard.  :rolleyes:
Whoa. I hadn't heard about that launch!  I'll go check that out!
Hey, I had a question (if you can answer this)
What aspect of the new game engine is the team (or you) excite to implemented in the new project?
