Do you approve of this choice? im abit disappointed since i wanted to be a city elf instead.

A shame BioWare is implying that City Elves are not significantly different enough from another racial choice to be included. I guess they're as useless and forgettable to the development team as they are the people of Thedas.

 

If we decided to make the elves all be city elves, then this precise argument could be used again except against the Dalish.

 

Dalish and city elves are different enough that one or the other had to be chosen.  In other words, a damned if you do, damned if you don't perspective.  The alternative being that no elf option exist at all....

My snark aside, and I apologize for it, I am curious why it was an either/or situation. I get that there are only so many hours in a day, but City Elves are what gets cut? It seems an odd choice, from the outside.

 

Well, it's not so much that City Elves were "cut" but more "they weren't added" when the release date was pushed back a year and the decision to go with multiple player races were put in.  If we were to look at DAO parity, City Elves are not in but Qunari are in as well.

I understand that, but since only class/race combinations are unique, why not make, say, the elf mage a Dalish and the elf rogue a city elf?

 

In order to be meaningful, it'd add a lot more writing.

 

Like I mention in the other thread regarding adding the player races in general, it's not a situation where it's a simply "oh hey it's a city elf rogue" and every one is happy, just like "oh hey it's an elf" doesn't make everyone happy because the nitty gritty is that there's details about it that that are implied that people still want.  It's important to remember that the player races came as a bonus from the time extension, though that the time extension wasn't exclusively about adding player races.  So there's costs in terms of complexity, and so forth, that have to be considered.

 

I don't think anyone here that is sad about the lack of authentic City Elf backgrounds would be satisfied if they had mostly human or dalish elf dialogue responses for the entirety of the game.

 

At least that's the way I see it.

While I'm reasonably sure this most is intended to mostly be silly/humorous and tongue in cheek, it's also not really facilitating any sort of conversation and runs the risk of derailing the thread.
