Hey guys! Just popping in to say I'm really excited to see all the chatter about the video. I know everyone has been anxious to hear more details and *see* more content related to the game, and the team is really glad to be able to share this piece with you all. We're really putting our heart and soul into Dragon Age: Inquisition and you'll see more and more information as well as in-game content as we get closer to launch!

Thank you again for your comments, feedback, and discussion. We're reading it (as we work on getting the game finished haha) and it's all reminders of who we're making this game for <3

The video was really great and I enjoyed seeing the varied locations and the different weather conditions. But please populate it more! The ball really stood out on how sparse it looked compared to everything else. The NPC models looked low-poly to me. So, those are my only critiques about the video. Everything else was rather good and I can't wait to explore it all.

Do we have an idea on who the composer will be this time around?

Scene 5:

DAI_5.jpg

The Fade.

Looks fantastic. Great Lighting over the whole scene. Looks suitably ominous!

That said, I'm hoping there will also be twisted dreamscape landscapes in the Fade.

Scene 6:

DAI_6.jpg

Another view of The Fade.

I like the slowly rotating columns. Again, I quite like the oppressive lighting/feel in the Fade.

Ah, so elves think of Halla as their friends that can't be harmed but other deer are fair game?

Racists.

Forest Stream.

Wow... look at all those branches... That's gonna make a whole lot of computers whimper for mercy.

Scene 8:

DAI_8.jpg

Forest Scene.

No nits to pick - looks great! These fall trees look fantastic.

They just practically showed the whole game, ahah. Looks beautiful, still skeptical as to the story and writing execution, but on the "world" itself, they've sold me on that aspect.

I'll take your beautiful and up it to breathtaking :P

Cause it really is!

Ah you worry-warts and nigglers about story, lore, details and mechanics.  Gonna give yourself frownlines. Just let go and  lose yourself in the moment. ;)

Fall is a comin :)

Scene 9:

DAI_9.jpg

Marsh Scene.

The money shot. Whoever designed this area... should get a raise! The lilies, the reflections in the water, the terrain layout. Nicely done. B)

If I had to pick a nit, it would be with the slightly odd smoke effect to the left...

Scene 10:

DAI_10.jpg

Castle.

Nice weather effects (the clouds and rain looks great) and again nice lighting. Though there is something slightly odd with flash lightning effect. It's almost like it's a little too localized?

Things that really stood out to me after first view:

  • The sea, damn son
  • Little Fennec fox like creatures
  • Ballroom - more importantly ballroom dancers, there is dancing in couples, not just standing around.
  • New companion elf?
  • DEEP ROADS

The sea hitting the shore didn't look too natural tho

Have you ever seen a sea hit a shore? It ain't pretty. That kind of behavior may have flown behind closed doors in the 1950s but we're past it now.

I'm taking Garrus (my cat, not the turian) to my ex's (his old house) tonight because I have to hide his existence from the evil bungalow inspection people scouring every room for faults over spring break, then I'm gonna crack open an ale and return to LPPrince's top pick for 2011's "Worst Thing of All Time"

EDIT:
Great, people are going to see that post at the top of the page and be like "the hell is going on?"

Was fun, got bored with the static-y dialogue system and stuff but enjoyed getting lost in the wilderness.

Ah, as it states on all the screenshots "pre-alpha work in progress". The game is developed through a series of milestones and sprints, so you just have to keep in mind that some aspects of the game are in a different cycle than others. It all comes together like a very well coordinated dance at the end (not an intentional pun on your mention of the ball).

It was pretty difficult for me to play the game builds when I first started at BioWare because I had a hard time visualizing things that were not yet in the game when other aspects were there etc. But it's pretty cool now that I've gotten the hang of it, and we have Sprint Review Day to see everyone's work in other teams as they progress!

(Actually, my team - Online Development - is ending our sprint tomorrow so I'm going to be working late tonight! lol)

Since OP said that Bioware is watching the thread now, I'd like to give a little bit of feedback. Bioware, please see if you can up the detail on the textures of the terrain(especially the rocks part, clearly visible in the dwarven area part of the video), reminds me way too much of DA 2 which is bad, and increase the amount of grass on the ground. The plants appear to be a bit on the low res side too.

It also seems like the corpses and all that are somehow "melded" with the ground if you look closely, maybe they need a bit more detail too?

The environment looks nice from afar but has that dated look in some parts of the video. Aside from that, everything else looks great. I like the more unique and varied environments, and agree with a few people here that you could do better than some of those generic looking forests(I know, I know, how else should a forest look like right?).

Also, can you tell us how long ago this footage was from, since it says Pre-Alpha?

I'm joining the party a bit late, as I just now watched the video. Absolutely gorgeous graphics. Amazing music! Since Inquisition is coming out on the 360, I was planning on putting off a PS4 purchase until Mass Effect Next, but after watching this, I might go ahead and buy it this Fall, instead.

I agree with sentiments that it looks good...but not great. I too was a bit dismayed to see how few people were in the ball room, we will have to wait until the final product to see if bioware gives us a full world brimming with life or another wasteland devoid of life like in Da2. Environments are great, but if we end up in lifeless cities again it will be a shame.

Also curious if development on 360 and ps3 will hold this game back. Look at Witcher, and you can see it looks considerably better graphics-wise.

All the pretty environments(city wise) are gonna go to waste if its not very populated, yeah. Hoping for some changes compared to what we've seen in prior DAs.

Scene 11:

DAI_11.jpg

Castle.

Interesting door mechanism. Other than a few oddly places pieces of greenery (and maybe a bit "clean" looking), it looks pretty good.

Scene 12:

DAI_12.jpg

Dining Hall.

Lighting is very nice, especially with the contrasting colors working here. Layout looks good, corpses suitably dead-ish.
