Whatever I broke down and got an Xbox One.

(Okay, so my husband went and took his half of our tax refund and bought it and three games and basically I haven't even gotten to use it yet but whatever)

It certainly looks fantastic, without a doubt, but my question is it running off a gaming console or a PC.

Probably a PC. Wouldn't matter this early though, given there will be improvements anyway from now till launch.

DA2 lacked the level of detail I prefer, but it looks like PERHAPS Inquisition will bring it back.

Hopin.

Yea, the art wasn't a slight improvement over DA:O, but it all looked the same.  I don't know if that is simply because we all stay in Kirkwall, but I think that is why we should of seen more detail to the environment.  DA:O, it wasn't that great but it did show enough variety to get a pleasing look of the world.  Inquisition looks like I'll actually take a few moments to stop and look at the world.

I put DAO over DA2 in the detail department. I always bring up the ravens flying around the top of the Tower of Ishal in Ostagar.

Can't recall DA2 having something memorable like that.

I'm sure you can. I myself owned a 6850 HD which I bought two years ago. I sent it for repair a couple of weeks ago, and now it is being replaced with a 7850 HD for free, which is AMD Mantle capable.  B)

If anything, I will likely upgrade my card when I have the funds.  :D   Im pretty happy with this computer. Its never had any problems.

Now that I've come off my emotional high I also realized that I am soooooooo not going to be able to keep side-stepping my ancient graphic card problem with this game. Ah well, bound to happen eventually.

A graphics card is basically nothing more than a processor + RAM. You can tell how good a processor is based on its clock speed(key word) and the number of cores it has, and RAM with its memory speed(like 4 GB, 8GB etc etc, another key word) and its clock speed(yes RAM also has a clock speed). So take a look at the specifications and you can see the clock speeds, the RAM size etc.

So coming back to a graphics card, the RAM on the card(which is referred to as VRAM or Video RAM) determines how much data the GPU(the processor in the card) can store on it. Like you can get a 2 GB GDDR5 graphics card which has a processor clock speed of 1020 MHZ. The 2 GB GDDR5 refers to the RAM in the graphics card(and GDDR5 is the best one you can get right now and exists on any good card), which has 2 GB of space(which is, like I stated in my previous post, more than enough to run all the games you see these days). The 1020 MHZ refers to the processor clock speed(midium end cards are usually found with processor clock speeds around 800 MHZ). Obviously, the higher it is, the better. If you compare multiple cards, you will notice how the cost jumps from one card to another when the clock speed difference is only around 100 to 200 MHZ, but not much when it comes to the RAM of the card(a 2 GB card is usually very slightly pricey than the same card with 1 GB RAM). You can learn a lot about PC hardware by just visiting an online store and comparing different hardware with their specifications.

Having said all that, if are seriously considering upgrading to a good PC, you can always message me for help(or maybe post a thread here so others can also help you). I will be more than glad to walk you through picking the best graphics card/RAM/or anything else for that matter(I've had people help me out when I didn't know crap), so don't hesitate. PCs with good hardware have become so cheap these days that it will make you think on why you even need a console, since they are more accessible. Still, there is that "I don't want to deal with all the software and hardware crap" advantage to consoles, I suppose. Also, as a side note, don't even think of getting a laptop for gaming, not worth it.

So that's what GDDR5 is... Yeah I think I will make a thread to ask for help later, I have no trouble admitting that I need help. I'm thinking about waiting until it's closer to release date since my current computer works decently enough (though it starts lagging because it gets too warm more and more often now). The problem with getting a stationary computer though is that it's harder to transport and I travel between my parents home and my teeny student room several times a year - though If I'm lucky my lap top will hold out and I can take that one in between instead of the stationary. I don't want a console though, it would be easier but I don't like hand held consoles - I want a mouse and keyboard. Anyway, thank you for your response! Maybe we should stop this conversation though before we get accused of derailing the thread...

The one thing that this place can find a measure of pride in, even when it's at its worst.

EDIT: I didn't know that the word I wrote there doesn't get caught by filters anymore. Had to do some self-moderating out of paranoid fear. Or is that a feature now? I could finally tell people what I think of them!

I might be the only one disappointed with this video. I was hoping for something more along the lines of gameplay or companion reveals, not this. I've seen screenshots of the game, and I already know this game looks great; but an entire video containing nothing but that is a let down.

We've already seen some early-gameplay in the past and we've had a few character model reveals already, Vivienne being the latest.

We needed a video to showcase the engine.

I don't know why "we" needed a video just to show the graphics of the game. To me showing off the engine includes everything from the physics, the mechanics, and the graphics. This video only showed off one, and I've seen it already from screenshots. So this video included nothing new or exciting to me.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I was looking forward to something new and this video just didn't deliver.

Random thought, don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but I think the Dwarven architecture on the ocean in the very begining may be Gwaren, which is a city on the eastern coast of Fereldan that was built on an old entrance to the deep roads. Maric (Alistairs Dad) hung out there for a bit in "The Stolen Throne". It's the only mention I can remember of any Dwarf related structures being near an ocean.

I didn't read the novels so I wouldn't know, but interesting nonetheless.

Maybe. All the maps we've seen have been pretty Orlais focused, but maybe. I feel a little skeptical, if only because it seems like a very long way to go for whatever the Inquisitor needs to do. I mean, aside from being a port, what's in Gwaren? Or even close to Gwaren? For a supposedly important port, it's fairly isolated from just about anything on land or sea. Unless of course I'm thinking of the wrong Gwaren.

Gwaren is the closest large city to the Brecillian forest.

Well, the game still has 6+ months to be released so I say there's plenty of time to save up money for a good graphics card, and most likely you'll get an even better card for the same price than what you might get now.

Given that it's cross platform, I doubt we'll be seeing Division or Witcher 3 visuals. I'm sure a mid range card will be plenty for DA:I.

People elsewhere were saying the Witcher 3 would have better graphics, and maybe that's true, but DAI is very pretty in terms of the lighting and the style in this video.  I expect it's still being polished--the elf's movements toward the deer/elk animal were kind of jerky compared to what I'd expect, so maybe the animation is still being worked on?  Honestly, the base graphics for DAI look better to me than the HD graphics for Skyrim on PC.  The plants are more detailed, reminds me of Skyrim Flora Overhaul.

The fact that the game is going to be on X360 and PS3 will probably bump graphic quality down a bit, although it may only be sized down for those consoles.  I remember reading somewhere that the developers were taking into account the differences between PC and console this time, which is something they failed to do with DA2.  Perhaps 360 and PS3 will get scaled-down graphics, XB1 and PS4 will get regular graphics, and PC users will get scalable graphics as usual, or possibly even an HD graphics pack we can download.

All I know is that even though Witcher has gained in popularity, I still can't play a woman in it, so while I'll probably buy it eventually on sale, DAI takes precedence.  So I'm counting on the developers to make it a really stellar experience.

Yeah, I noticed that the archer's movements were kinda weird with the jerking, but I'll give it a pass because pre-alpha.
