I bet that has Bioware thrilled if they can keep the fall 2014 date they now have less competition for the typical RPGS game buyer. They also don't have to share the media attention.

Sure. They'd get a lot of day one purchases now from the general RPG crowd for one. Right now, I'm just amused thinking of all those guys on youtube commenting on the Discover DA trailer that "witcher is gonna kick Inquisition's ass".

It looks really great. The locations in DAI compared with DA2 are just awesome.

Ah, as it states on all the screenshots "pre-alpha work in progress". The game is developed through a series of milestones and sprints, so you just have to keep in mind that some aspects of the game are in a different cycle than others. It all comes together like a very well coordinated dance at the end (not an intentional pun on your mention of the ball).

It was pretty difficult for me to play the game builds when I first started at BioWare because I had a hard time visualizing things that were not yet in the game when other aspects were there etc. But it's pretty cool now that I've gotten the hang of it, and we have Sprint Review Day to see everyone's work in other teams as they progress!

(Actually, my team - Online Development - is ending our sprint tomorrow so I'm going to be working late tonight! lol)

Thank you for clarifying that. I am incredibly hyped for this game and do so wish it to be the best it can be, but I completely understand what you said about different cycles for different aspects.

Also loved your unintentional pun! ;)

Looks really great. :)

And I've managed to replace my computer with a new system. Finally retired my old geriatric dinosaur of a system about 6 months ago, as it had nowhere to go on upgrades anymore. The old thing could still run all bioware games thus far released, with reasonable graphics quality, but DAI would have been beyond it's reach. Now I'm all set, bring it on! B)

(Interesting side effect of replacing my old dinosaur is that the electricity usage in my apartment fell by 29% )

I believe The Witcher 3 is farther along in dev, isn't it? Regardless, different engine, different focus. I don't think anyone will doubt that graphically, The Witcher 3 will be superior. Whether its aesthetics appeal to someone though is up to them.

Given that DAI will release first, your statement seems inaccurate. However i feel like Bioware will do the big things prior to release, i feel like they will put most effort this year.

And i like the graphics of DAI. Very impressive and not like the cartoon style of DA2. Origins had low res textures, yet i loved the atmosphere and the feeling i get in this game. Sometimes is not about high res textures - it is about the atmosphere. I feel like Origins is pretty grame, with nice visuals, despite outdated graphics. DAI is trying something new, with more colourful scenery and more "high fantasy" feeling to it, which we will se how turns out.

Witcher 3 on the other side keep the style the same for the three games. Especially 2 and 3. It is more gritty and dark, like Origins. The thing i dont approve in Witcher 3 and DAI is that i will need massive upgrade or my GTX460 and 4gb ram will suffer trying to run these new engines.

Witcher 3 being delayed is a new development. That wasn't announced yet when I made that post. :P

Anyway, I hope if this go around looks fantastic, DA STICKS WITH ITS ART STYLE.

Cause we've had two games look entirely different, and now Inquisition will be the third. Damn. Consistency's nice(though I get why they made the changes so I should play fair).

Of course, I may be reading too much, but there's a very consistent aesthetic shown in this video with a tone reminiscent of the first game -- more graceful, less angular.  I like it!

On top of which, they're continuing to improve the engine... From last week's Sprint Day Review:

Multiple rounds of applause during the frostbite video. This will make DAI play and look even better than we had planned #sprintreviewday

http://blog.bioware....the-dragon-age/

"Our new “Discover the Dragon Age” video highlights only some of the locations you can choose to visit during your adventure. Each area in the video has its own realistic ecosystem with predators, prey, factions, and opportunities to expand your Inquisition.

The world’s population is based on an emergent system that adjusts what you’ll encounter based on how your actions tip the balance in the area. You’ll see towns attacked by bandits, deer fleeing from wolves, giants feeding on bears, and countless other scenarios."

The "realistic ecosystem" part would indicate that there are random encounters...I think.

Those are dynamic encounters. A random encounter is when the game decides you're going to have an encounter and then uses RNG to decide which one - DAO had those.

You mean that blurry pax video with the girl who was holding the camera having an orgasm every 20 seconds?

Edit: Oh there was another vid. Nvm, thanks.

Oh. So, random encounter is more like wild pokemon appearing?

That terminology actually does make more sense to me.

Heh, Pokémon really is one of the only big holdovers of that screen-switching random formula, isn't it?

There was a time 90% of the games I played were like that, many of which with terrific or at least decent stories.

Skyrim's art style wasn't that good, way too grey. As for the fidelity, there were a lot of oddly poor textures around there.

I could not agree more.  I didn't even fully realize the extend of just how grey Skyrim was until I didn't play the game for about a year, uninstalled all my mods and replayed the game (was having issues and trying to figure out what mod was causing them).  Especially too after I got my LED screen.  Was a big wall of grey.  After that I had to mod and use ENBs to give it a more broad spectrum.  100x better after that.

Back to the topic on hand, I enjoyed the video quite a bit, very pretty.  For all of those saying the Witcher 3 will look better…does it make that much of a difference?  If it's just a comment, that's fine, but I hope you're not trying to imply that graphics are everything.  I could also never get into the Witcher games…granted I started with the first and after playing just the opener I found the combat to be so horrid I can't even force my self to give that game another chance =/.  Heard two has much better combat so maybe I'll try that one.

But hurray for the Inquisition!

Indeed. I don't see the need to compete with the Witcher. Isn't the fact that there is another story heavy RPG on the horizon a good thing for RPG fans?

I think there's just an innate urge in some hearts to see the world as a string of contests. Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are competing high-budget fantasy RPGs and up until TW3's recent delay news they would have competed quite literally for consumer wallets this holiday season. Some people just like a fight and stir up those pots. Others are simply voicing concerns against one in favor of the other because they don't want to purchase both.

In any case, I'll always agree on the "does it make that much of a difference?" part, forsooth.

Who knows, Inquisition could get delayed a few months to release early next year and it'll still happen.

Anything is possible. But if they manage to stick to their development schedule, it will be more profitable for BW (and CDPR as well) having the games released within a longer time spawn.
