Whatever the case, the statues and the spikes are not making me feel good. Everything else is beautiful, it would be a shame to see these blemishes affect the final product. At least from my perspective;I can't pretend to speak for everybody here.

I see nothing in the new art style to be upset about..yet. Pointy art style with huge statues is Tervinter, and where were they1,000 years ago game time?

Ostagar and the Imperial Highway in DAO (both examples of 1000 year old Tevinter artitecture) weren't pointy at all.

Let's hope they aren't covered in 10 ft long spikes everywhere in DAI.

God I miss the walkway leading into Ostagar. That was mesmerizing. I loved it. Mass Effect 2 had something similar in the Collector Ship with the huuuge room with all the pods.

Inquisition would do well to have such a moment of "Holy crap, look at the scale/grandeur/size"

I actually don't get the argument there. Even if it's 1000 years old, why would it look "crude" like that? 1000 years in Thedas before Dragon Age is not the same as 1000 years ago in real life. 5000 years before Dragon Age, the elves were rumored to be taller, knowledgeable, immortal and powerful. They probably also built massive and awe-inspiring structures back then. So why do people keep bringing up the "it looks crude because it's old so it's justified" argument?

Ostagar was very...Gondorian. They clearly retconned the Tevinter 'style' for DA2, and judging from later art (WoT etc.) they are sticking with the spiky style, though they keep mixing in other things. I think we have to accept that the effective 'feel' of Tevinter has been changed from cultivated and not unreasonable, if aggressive imperialists into 'teh crazy evil empire, see, spikes (+ slaves and unspeakable, eh, things)'. To be honest, it may always have been like that from a 'lore' perspective but this was in practice 'softened' by the 'pseudo-Gondorian' look of Tevinter ruins in DA:O.

In short: The architecture should have been more 'ominous' and 'semi-evili-ish' to begin with, just like the Qunari, we are told, should have had horns and bodybuilder physiques from the get-go.
Then again, there's ways of doing this that look beautiful, impressive and, erm, less stupidly spiky, and, well, the excessively dumb way...

...meanwhile, in Thedas...

Given that some of the Tevinter concept art in WoT is also pretty spiky, I am almost beginning to suspect some Darwinian population growth control scheme behind it all. Those craaaaaaaaaaazy Magisters, never underestimate their brilliant whackiness...

I don't think anyone is making this argument, actually. Are you still talking about the blocky and spiky DA2 and DA:I desert fortress architecture, or include Ostagar as well?

By the way, a fun way of looking at the whole subject is by way of this (rather than Lego, which is capable of producing some fine-looking architecture):

This is what struck me, particularly in the case of the desert fortress and ruins (and retroactively, Kirkwall). That these literally look like piles of toy wooden blocks, though with a striking absence of some of the more rounded shapes and forms.

I miss the rusty metal spikes district. Every city should have a rust metal spikes district, just as a matter of practice.

Yeah, some were making that argument in the previous page. Anyway, nice pics. That is exactly what I think of DA 2 and DA:I art style and they really need to put more effort into it.

Don't you think that's a little unfair and arrogant to say? Just because you didn't like the art style means it was a poor effort overall? Like you are the benchmark of the entire artistic universe?

Even as someone not fond of spike-spam I honestly find myself hoping everything has tons of spikes just in spite if your attitude. And don't worry, I'll buy a second copy of the game to make up for your loss. I'll donate it to child's play or something.

Saying that they need to put more effort in the art style all of a sudden makes me arrogant? That's called criticism. Get a glass of water, you need to calm down.

Wow dude, what a hateful little man you are. Donating to a children's organization? Well at least you're doing something good cause of it.

Yes, it does make you a little arrogant. Claiming to know more than you possibly can is arrogant. You have no idea how much effort went into the art, and if any more time would improve it. Perhaps this is just what the art team wanted to do? You even compound your arrogance by presuming you know my temperament and what beverages I should consume.

And I don't think personal attacks are called for, I was merely criticizing how irrational you're being, and how aggressive you're being towards the artists. I believe the word sloppy was used a page or two ago as well.

As for being Hateful, I'll leave that judgment to other people but I see it as just harmless entertainment. If you're getting this worked up over a couple spikes, I'd wager whatever hemisphere you're in would melt down if the whole game was covered with them. Who wouldn't want to see that? (Aside from the millions of poor souls in said hemisphere.)

Seriously, you really need to calm down. Pointing out things I dislike does not mean that I'm getting worked up. And you are being hateful because you are wishing the game will be full of that art style just so I get furious over it and not buy the game. I do consider that work to be sloppy because it looks sloppy to me. If you don't think so, that's fine, it's just an opinion.

Also, you'd lose that wager.

I can't help but feel you're projecting your own feelings onto me.

And perhaps you'd like to take me up on that bet then too? If Dragon Age: Inquisition releases with copious amounts of spikes plastered to every surface, and you do not collapse your hemisphere into a firestorm of rage, I will give you one(1) like on these forums.

If however, there are copious amounts of spikes and you do engulf your hemisphere in the hellstorm of fury, killing millions (Perhaps billions?) in impotenent rage, you have to give me one(1) like.

The threshold of "Copious" which pertains to the amount of spikes in Dragon Age: Inquisition will be determined by popular consensus. In the event that the majority determines the spike amount is lacking or insufficient, no spoils will be gained.

Are the terms I've dictated acceptable?

Well I've dealt a similar game before, called DA 2. And that had many more problems than just spikes. I still got out OK. I'm sure I'll be able to do it this time too.

I still have the very real possibility that you're the Earthly incarnation of Vulcan, the god of Fire on my side. Roman mythology was scientifically proven right?

Same. They stick out against the rest. Its jarring and not in a good way.

Looks pretty.

Hoping we get cloud shadows (since we already had them under Very High settings in DA2).
