Do the textures look low resolution to anyone else?

Idk, it's hard to tell for sure until we get a better high res pic that isn't terribly compressed. However there are some really low resolution LOD and skybox textures like this (those faraway mountains on the side of the keep).

Hard to tell, it's not exactly a hi-res picture here.

What I do know is that 'realistic-ish' landscapes in RPG's are becoming hard to tell apart. This might just as well have been in Witcher II or Skyrim (PC high/ultra, with perhaps some mods). Which means that other things like visual design of 'artefacts' (arms, armour, architecture etc.) becomes more important.

Edit: Seeing the picture above again, I am reminded of how (in my personal experience), the reasonably believable ('realistic-ish')desert landscape clashes with the spikes and the noticeably more 'stylized' (and blocky) architecture. I still think the fort's architectural style is mostly okay (minus spikes and statues) if too 'blocky', but it does feel as if there is a difference in degree of stylization (or lack of it).

To put it bluntly: The desert looks more 'real' than the fortress (even minus fantasy spiky fluff).

It's too bright looking and upbeat to be either the Witcher 2 or Skyrim. Both have a 'cold' touch to them that is lacking in these shots.

You guys really don't see the low-res looking leaves(especially on the tree on the right) and terrain here? hmm...

Well it certainly suffers from a lack of antialiasing but I'm gonna wait for a higher res image before jumping to any conclusions.

Yeah you re right, it looks like the opacity map is lod-ing too close for some reason.

Is the picture getting messed with by the forum somehow?  It looks a bunch better when I click through to see it on it's own

Nope, Its an in engine thing, if you look at the leaves of the plant just above the letters "BAT" youll see they look odd. ^^

It happens when the rez of the alpa is too low or the cull isnt set up right.

It's as if the artists just can't think of creating stuff outside that look.

Going out on a limb here, but maybe they just don't want to. Maybe they don't care for the realistic look and feel. Maybe their intention is to make their game more stylized than anything else?

Crazy guess, I know.

Nobody's complaining about the lack of realism here. I don't know what you're going on about.

Really? Ok. Not the point anyway. The point is artists make their game look like they want it to look. They're not doing something else because they don't want to, not because they can't. Love it or leave it.

Indeed, I don't think that a person has to leave if they don't like something. Bioware approves of criticism, if it's done in a civil way.

Obvious pointlessness of it aside, devaluing something based on your personal preferences is not criticism. You can't criticize a cubist work for not being an impressionist one. It's called complaining and other words less flattering.

For me the images look fine. Until I see how it looks in the game, I won't worry about it.

Some are HD and some are not, anyway. Besides, DA2 was the perfect example of "wait for the game" because whhhhyyyy

These days, very few games get "polished" by the time of release the way we believe they will. DA 2 looked bad during pre-alpha, came out looking worse on the release day.

The boundary markers (?) look really nice, although they feel stylistically a bit out of place - too archaic-looking, while they don't seem to look that old (with just mild weathering). Not sure why fires are burning during the day.
That griffin statue looks weird though. Robust but somewhat naturalistic body, but very 1930s/1940-ish über-stylized 'stratospheric wings', that look as if the poor beastie's impaled on it, rather than that they are part of its body.

You could be right, it that's a horse's body. Hard to tell for sure from the picture, though.
Could be a somewhat stylized horse's body (though good luck sitting like that with a horse's body), but also that of a lion / big cat.
I tend towards the latter, hence, griffin.

Assuming this is Redcliffe, might it be a 'heroic' statue commemorating the involvement of the Warden in saving Redcliffe (due to the association between griffins and Grey Wardens)?
