At the first time i think that way too, Until story reveal more about him.

Not for one second did I consider a possibility of Loghain and the Archdemon being one and the same. But like Howe in the Human Noble origin, I had him pegged from the start as someone who was going to betray me. (Oh, why couldn't I tell that to Duncan or the king?)
I did strongly suspect he had some sort of communications with the darkspawn leaders and that's why the Tower of Ishaal was full of darkspawn. Though I had not read the novels and so didn't realize until I read the forums here what his real motivations were for his traitorous actions, etc.
