Giant's [sic] feeding on bears

Huh. According to the blog post on Discover the Dragon Age, DA:I will have giants. For some reason I'm not so big on new fantasy creatures being introduced to Dragon Age's ecology. I wasn't a big fan of the ghasts in DAII, but I remember the devs saying the didn't want to have mindless humanoid creatures that weren't darkspawn that you could go around killing, but they talk about giants like they're animals. I hope the devs execute giants right, and gives them actual culture (and also explain why we haven't seen or heard about such large creatures until now).

Baseless speculation, of course, but what if giants have something to do with the tears? Maybe they're like, possessed somethings... or something.

The way the were spoken about makes me think they're natural creatures like wolves and bears, but I suppose you could be right... except a spirit can't possess an unwilling self-aware body (and all humanoids in Thedas are self-aware as far as we know), so either a giant is some kind of possessed ape, or some bizarre new kind of abomination.

Qunari are the giants...

If they put in anymore giants...the Qunari as giants is no unique anymore

Not at all, thats like saying dragons having horns, takes the uniqueness of horns away from qunari

I think the Qunari ARE the giants. What we see in the trailer is probably a troll. Gaider said they existed in Thedas.

Haha just don't bother replying. Honestly I don't care too much for the giants unless they add some interesting tactical challenges for combat. I hope they have more unique creatures, whilst bringing back old favourites. I really want to see the darkspawn designs including broodmothers for all races.

So giving a horn does take away the uniqueness of Qunari, it is like giving a Mercedes with Porsche brand...

To relate a creature with dragons doesn't need to give them horns, not even giving anything related to physical of dragons can make a creature relate to dragons...such as ability

A dragonborn don't look like a dragon, but have dragon ability...along the time playing a Dragonborn we feel connected with dragons even have no physical attributes of a dragon...

Please, lets move on back to the topic

I am with the topic...it is about giants isn't it?

In DA:O Qunari are called giants, it means for the people of Ferelden they recognize Qunari as giants...they retconed it in DA2 making them ox-men a horned monster...now want to add another giant?

That ridiculous

Giants and Qunari are vastly different. The only reason outside races call them "giants" or "ox-men" is because they're ignorant to the culture.

I disagree with this. firstly the Qunari are at most a foot or two taller than humans so giant is just a relative term given to them to denote their race size in comparison to their other races but if we're comparing them to giant races in other fantasy they are just merely tall humanoids. Sten from DAO although taller than the other races could easily just have been passed off as a tall human with dark skin.

Secondly why should horns be exclusive to any race or creature? Your comment is entirely subjective. I could easily say that giving dragon horns takes away from the uniqueness of dragons but we know that isn't correct.

If we're talking about the race, it's the combination of the various physical aspects that defines them, not any one thing. Giants or trolls, whatever that creature is has every right to be in the universe as the Qunari and to be honest the term needed to be legitamised as calling something giant is an allusion to the fictional creature anyway.

They didn't retcon anything, Qunari were always meant to have horns they didn't program them in however as the hardware limitations would have made the character models clash with the helmets. And calling things giant is used as a figure of speech not actaully denoting them as the established giants of the universe... just stop...

Giants are said to hunt and eat bears, and are said in the same breath to be like wolves hunting other animals, implying giants are wild creatures. I don't think Qunari hunt bears.

Correct, we have heard DA:I will probably feature a new (antagonistic) race of trolls, and my guess is that big, shambling beast was one of them.

I think there will be both trolls and giants, but the linked thread mentions giants and does not mention trolls, so it's more likely to guess that the monster shown in the video linked to the blog post that mentions giants is, in fact, a giant.

K. So it's a bear-eating giant. Traditionally, giants are a bit less ugly than trolls in most fantasy games, and that thing was butt-ugly. If the giants are that ugly, then I don't want to see the trolls.  ;)

I don't know, it's a little weird to have them appearing in thedas; I think it could be done well if we ever go to another continent. Who knows, we've only been in one city in the free marches, and one country. So perhaps there's a great deal of ecology we haven't seen.

As long as we don't go seeing new creatures in old places, I'm fine with new introductions.

We call african-american's black because they have dark skin. We call dwarves such because they're short. I don't think that calling Qunari ox-men is a reflection of ignorance. Though they certainly don't tell others much about their culture.

Giants and trolls hanging out on the map assaulting local wildlife.

We have never seen that before.
