Giants and Qunari are vastly different. The only reason outside races call them "giants" or "ox-men" is because they're ignorant to the culture.

Or you know, because they're tall, and because they have horns? Just maybe. I don't agree with Qistina, but ignorance didn't make those characteristics be there.

No...Qunari in DA:O have no horns, that is why Ferelden call them giants instead of bull headed ox-men such in DA2

No, they called them giants because they were taller than them. Also, doesn't Varric call them giants during Shepherding Wolves? Just stop really, it's kind of annoying. The qunari were always meant to have horns, the tranquil were always meant to have brands. Such things were made lore only to deal with the graphic limitations, and even then, they are only a minority. Really, stop.

I think it's pretty ignorant to call people of a different culture by their characteristics rather than their actual name.

I don't agree, dialogues in DA:O made to fit DA:O Qunari, because they are hornless you got such dialogue in DA:O about them...no point mention horns if visually they don't have any.

DA2 just retcon what have been established

It's in lore that Qunari are meant to have horns, DA2 didn't change anything or take anything back, it's literally always supposed to have been that way. It's mentioned how some Qunari do not have horns and those particular people are given special jobs or titles specifically because of this.

And that's cool. Doesn't really change what I said in anyway.

What does this even mean? And the devs themselves have said that the qunari were always meant to have horns.

I'm not saying it changes anything you think/said, I'm just telling you my opinion and why I wrote what I wrote in the first place.

Which lore? DA:O or DA2?

Strangly they use Sten/Qunari head of DA:O in DA2 as a common bandit who want to rob Sister petrice in Act 1...i almost thought that was a Qunari when first time playing

I have no idea what you're talking about, I don't understand what you're trying to say

I am with the topic...it is about giants isn't it?

In DA:O Qunari are called giants, it means for the people of Ferelden they recognize Qunari as giants...they retconed it in DA2 making them ox-men a horned monster...now want to add another giant?

That ridiculous

The Qunari are still the giants, I think. They just have horns now. (Or most of them do.)

just imagine Metallica sing Harvester of Sorrow but in hip hop, later to answer the angry fans they say "actually that song was hip hop, but because of we are metal band, we make it metal, so now we just bring back the original concept of that song that is always a hip hop"....next time they go on stage they will get shot....

That what happen with DA Qunari...they don't respect what have been accepted by fans of DA:O. Qunari was a hornless giant in DA:O, but they changed it because they feel "we are the producer, we do what we like with our work", change the Qunari to DA2 Qunari...then they justify it with "they always meant to be with horns.."...they are lucky that game fans are not as aggressive as music fans

You're making stuff up, Qunari were always supposed to have horns but didnt have horns in DA:O because the game mechanics wouldnt allow them to wear helmets. You can easily find this information.

Thedas is massive world where the sky turned open.in mine mind that it would have reaction on the world. That means for trolls and giants that have com out there hide pleace to seek for saver spot to live.

I can not wait to see wat bioware wat bioware have in stole for us. Npc wise.

Quistina actually has a point. Notwithstanding that the qunari were always supposed to have horns, the transition between a normal (if oversized) head and the one they wound up with is a little jarring. I still think they qualify as giants (since "without horns" doesn't specifically appear in most dictionaries under that word), and I don't really mind the horns per se, but once they'd published the qunari without the horns I really wish they'd stuck with that.

That isnt making a point, thats just stating an opinion on what you think they should have done. Quistina wasnt saying that though, she said that the only reason they changed was because the devs decided they ultimately have the power to do what they want, therefore decided to redesign them when that isnt true at all. Anyways bottom line is, they had always planned for the qunari to be one way, why would they permanently change the design of the qunari just based on Sten not having horns in the first game? I think i can speak for most people when i say id hate if they were all hornless. Why take away a unique design choice for the sake of minor continuity we can easily ignore.

Given that darkspawn are corrupted versions of existing races, it always seemed strange to me (in DAO) that ogres have horns whereas qunari have not. So, I think it is safe to assume that Bioware is not lying about the lack of horns in DAO being to engine restrictions.

I believe a codex in DA:O even alluded to Qunari having horns so it wasn't 100% out of left field. That, and there were creatures shown off in the first Dragon Age trailers from like E3 2005 or 2004 that looked like the Qunari in DAII.

The way the were spoken about makes me think they're natural creatures like wolves and bears, but I suppose you could be right... except a spirit can't possess an unwilling self-aware body (and all humanoids in Thedas are self-aware as far as we know), so either a giant is some kind of possessed ape, or some bizarre new kind of abomination.

I thought spirits could posess unwilling hosts. Uldred was unwillingly possessed. Lady Harrington's children were possessed.

Demons do, but AFAWCTSF, spirits don't.

Uldred was possessed by a pride demon.

Unless, of course, you think it's not meaningful to believe there is a distinction.  ;)

*attempts to wrench thread back onto topic*

Since we've heard that we're getting trolls this time around, I wonder if these are the same thing or if there are trolls AND giants? In Witch Hunt, trolls are included with fairies in a book of mythical creatures. So I guess either trolls were cryptids that have now been proven to exist, or something about the veil tears has created them.

(And this being the case, do fairies actually exist as well? Should we be on the lookout for leprechauns and yetis?)

Did it? I don't remember any entries that suggested they ever did. (Unless you count the one that first reveals that Ogres are Qunari darkspawn).

They could be from the lands south of the Korcari wilds, cold barren tundra that the Chasind speak of. Perhaps driven north by something.

I think it is a troll. I mean, a big troll sure, but they did say DAI was going to include trolls in their NPC lineup, and I think that's it.

I'm inclined to agree with you, snack, except the text accompanying the video mentions giants, but not trolls, therefore many think the creature is a giant. I think it indeed is a troll, because it shares the rather decrepit butt-ugliness of trolls in many other fantasy games.

Perhaps we shall soon be vindicated.  :)

Well the tusks do kind of make it bear an astonishing resemblance to the trolls of World of Warcraft, so that's possibly a reason that it seems like it's a troll too.
