*attempts to wrench thread back onto topic*

Since we've heard that we're getting trolls this time around, I wonder if these are the same thing or if there are trolls AND giants? In Witch Hunt, trolls are included with fairies in a book of mythical creatures. So I guess either trolls were cryptids that have now been proven to exist, or something about the veil tears has created them.

(And this being the case, do fairies actually exist as well? Should we be on the lookout for leprechauns and yetis?)

thank you for this.

No, they called them giants because they were taller than them. Also, doesn't Varric call them giants during Shepherding Wolves? Just stop really, it's kind of annoying. The qunari were always meant to have horns, the tranquil were always meant to have brands. Such things were made lore only to deal with the graphic limitations, and even then, they are only a minority. Really, stop.

Brands and horns are retcons. They were not "always meant to have them." DA:O's engine could have handled both brands (see dwarves) and horns (see ogres) so it had nothing to do with graphical limitations. The devs just changed their minds.

Hope it's slow and I can run from it at lower levels.

The brand I'll grant you. But creating a helmet around a pair of horns is a bit more difficult than simply having the horns. And then factor in creating such a design for every helmet Sten could possibly get his hands on. I can well believe there were some problems with that.

Horns might be for all I know. But Brands are not. Either Owain or The Tranquil at Ostagar  say something alog the lines of: "I was branded with lyrium in order disconnect me from the fade and stop me from being a danger." So the were always included in the lore.

I guess the Fereldan circle brands their *ss instead of their forehead. ^^

Before DA2 i always thought Orges just giant boss monster and have nothing to do with Qunari, but i suspect have relationship with Desire Demon

Then you haven't been very attentive while playing.

It clearly states that qunari broodmothers give birth to ogres in the codex entry for broodmothers you get after defeating the broodmother in the deep roads.

ok I am a little confused are we talking about the thing with tusks? cause I am pretty sure thats a troll because Gaider already talked about the Dragon Age equivalent of trolls.

Then they make a mistake by that for not changing some part of the game that is the codex and maintain it in the game, if i am the one who make the quality check, or BETA testing, i put some mark about that

Not really. I'd have appreciated the horns on the ogres either way. They'd have just looked funny without those.

Uh you remember the broodmother right? She was much larger than her dwarven former compatriots. That is what gave birth to the darkspawn. Also there's no reason to think that newborn darkspawn are fully grown at birth either.

The horn don't make them scarier. really the only thing i scared of the Orge is getting grabbed. The horror of being a giant monster do not come from their horn.

I'm actually picturing the ogres without the horns. That would be the end of any chance I'd take them seriously.

It is fine if they leave the horn, but change the lore about them. And it is ridiculous how a not so big Qunari give birth to oversize giant Orge...how big the Qunari vagina is?

The rest of darkspawns are the same size of their original species

The darkspawn all have the same lore, so you don't have much of a leg to stand on there. Also, shrieks are slightly taller than most elves and bear less resemblance to the DA:O or DA2 elves than the ogres bear to the DA:O qunari. Not to mention that the children are human darkspawn, and bear no resemblance to anything. The rest of it Jedi handled.

Yah know this is totally off-topic but I just want it to go on record with how much I disagree with Qistina's sig. I mean if we were looking at it from a metaphor kinda view then sure, maybe but metaphors are boring so I'm taking it literally. Unless these sheep were wearing riot gear and were all armed with carbines I really don't see how they would win. Lions have teeth. And claws. And the guys have majestic manes.

Anyway on topic. Why are these giants eating bears? Are we talking literal bears or a certain subset of the gay community? In either event there should be infinitely more pleasant things to eat frolicking about.

Name one Ogre or Dwarf with horns that had a helmet, because that's why Sten had no horns. No one said "graphical limitations".

It's been stated multiple times by devs and codex that Qunari are meant to have horns.

It's literally explained in this thread and that's why Ogres have horns. Viola.

They are not a retcon as it was already stated that they were meant to be there

Example, in Kingdom of Heaven Ballian was meant to duel Guy with dual wielding sword technique, but it is taken out because that fighting technique is not medieval. If ever they include it in DVD version they will got critics heavily.

Not to be overly blunt, but no one will give a damn if a re-released movie includes an altered fight scene.....

We were shown 1 Qunari model in DA:O and maybe a small handful if you did a side-quest/Sten's nightmare, DA2 gave us a much broader scale of the Qunari as a whole. Between that and a newer engine, BioWare was able to show what they were always meant to be. I don't understand your analogy or what you're trying to say, so I can't really comment on it, but yeah.

It seems pretty cut and dry to me, in DA:O they couldn't portray qunari as they wanted to, that doesn't change anything

i never picture broodmother will actually pampering and breast feeding baby darkspawn as we do, so i always assume they are born either fully grown or they have rapid growth after born

Judging from how fast the Children matured in Awakening, I'd say it is the latter. They are born small, but have rapid growth. Think the Xenomorphs in the Alien franchise.

I understand (to giants) they taste like chicken.  :D

You might not want to know what part of humanoids tastes best to them.

Are they giants? it says in the blog that there are giants feeding on bears but how do we know that the thing we saw was a giant? has it been confirmed that it's a giant? it could be something else for all we know, a troll maybe?

Exactly, the mother feeds all her children. Well, except the ones she eats. Birth is hard work!

No no no...i never imagine darkspawn babies are treated the same way as human babies...you see human babies are vulnerable, need care, need to sing to make them sleepy,...just imagine a broodmother sing....

What does that have to do with broodmother boobs?

When a mother sing while breast feeding, it could stimulate the boobs to produce more milk

I know you aren't big on science, but really?
