Hmm, does anyone know if the last concept art is official or fan made? Trident guy looks like a mage in it (at least to me).

That's fanart.  If he's a companion, I doubt he's a mage, unless he's a battle mage/arcane warrior.  In the actual concept art, he's wearing a sword on his back.

I kind of want the opposite. Most companions in the DA series have a severe case of Special Snowflake Syndrome. I think it's possible for a character to be too exceptional and lose relatability.

People like Leliana, Aveline, or Carver who have no unique super powers, are far more endearing to me than characters like Fenris. Then you have special snowflakes that are special because they exist - Justice, "the corpse possessed by a GOOD spirit!" or Shale, "The only female golem ever, and she sparkles!"

I agree. I mean I liked all those characters individually, but when you put them together and realize you're travelling around with a talking statue, fade spirit, long lost prince and a guy covered in magical tatoos it all starts to look like a travelling circus

Still hoping it's a mage. We know of a certain mage from "Asunder" that fits his description, has a lot of free time and access to templar martial and sword training...among other things...if you know what I mean  ;)

Aizen you really need to put more thought into your posts.

Previous games have had plenty of Diversity and uniqueness in the companions with a broad range of personilties and goals and you could also customize there fighting style and combat abilities in the roles they are assigned (DA2 you have several skill trees for each character allowing you to change things up rather well)

This post is more about you wanting Bioware to make the game that you want and to fit the character "you want to create" just like every other post you create which just goes on and on about how the game should be made to fit you and the choices you make and not bother with anyone else or there choices.

If you want to discuss the posibility of a demon type companion and how it could work in lore, that's great, but your OP just derails into you demanding something be put in the game to fit what you feel the story should be like.

I'm confused, what special powers did Zevran get?  Because he was in the game for a whole 5 minutes.  If you're talking about his special power to pull off a Jesus and rise from the dead, that was a bug.  Otherwise, he had daggers and he stabbed people like he did in Origins, again, for the five minutes he was on screen.  You also mention anders, but what about Fenris, you know, the guy that can reach into your chest and crush your heart?  I know some of the others didn't have too special powers (Isabella being a slightly better duelist class, Sebastian being a Shadow mixed with a dagger rogue for his chains, Bethany being a force mage, carver being a templar, etc.), but they still got inherently unique abilities (besides Bethany and Carver), that the player couldn't get or that other classes could't get.  I think Fenris was also rather diverse in his builds, to a point.  You could make him a 2h dps, or you could do what I did and just make him a 2h tank because he has so much damage resistance to magic and physical and give him little to no points in 2 hand (I basically get auto attack stagger and giants reach).

That is exactly what I want.  And the rules should govern them all equally.

I found the unique abilities for the companions in DA2 incredibly annoying.  Isabela's All Hands on Deck was a great ability, and I wanted every Rogue to learn it.  But no.

Completely agree.  I understand what the OP is saying.  It's nice to have those unique companions.  People who are true exceptions to the rules of the world.  However, if all companions break the rules, there's no point to the rules and everyone feels less special.

Companions are generally more interesting when they're just average people stuck in extraordinary situations.

You're complaining about their personalities, but you don't know anything about their personalities yet. Having 2 of each class is for gameplay balance, deal with it.

Bioware characters have also been their strongest point.    I don't need to have exotic archetypes in my companions as long as they are well-written.    I could use a few less broken personalities perhaps compared to DA2.    Fewer moody(Anders) and broody(Fenris) types perhaps.    A lot of what those two did came off as 'over-acting' to me.

One or two "special" characters is what we usually get and that is more than enough without making the series seem like a Marvel Universe comic book.

I could not agree with this more.  This is one of the reasons why I'm really really hoping that Cole is out.  He's too much of a special snowflake.  I'd rather a normal humanoid rogue in that spot, like a Carta Dwarf or a Orlesian spymaster.  I never use the "special characters in the Bioware games (Shale, Dog, Javik, etc.) because I'd rather see interactions between regular characters.

not pic 2

PIc 2 has DA2 concept art photoshopped in. The elf isn't in the official version of that art. It was shown in the first dev diary video we saw.

Say we meat a desire demon...

Would that go best with red or white wine?

I imagine they're lighter than beef and lack a gamey taste.

Holy mother of Necro lol

Anyhow, on topic, I think so far we have pretty good diversity in our band. An all business human seeker, a sassy bossy fashion freak First Enchanter, a humorous "best bro" dwarf, an elf Fade specialist, a bratty elf rogue, and a badass Qunari. Non of them sound too much like each others to me. Though I'm hoping we will have more dwarf and Qunari companions :)

My first request is to stop posting the ugly cartoon characters.

Second request is to give us good companions that we can interact with and not psychopaths.

Third is for no more unique powers for companions that any person cannot use.

I do want something that sets the companions apart from each other personality wise.  I'm not positive what  you mean by this "But if your gonna do that at least make them unique. dont just give a warrior who is nothing"   If I'm out to destroy something powerful I want the best team I can get, including someone who is just good at fighting.

I do want my group to be at the top of their abilities,  mages, rogues and assassins, healer, or unknown,  but giving each of them some kind of special power isn't something I'm looking for.

That said, I loved Shale and one of my favorite DA:O moments was in the fade, Morrigan knew it was a demon posing as her mother.  So that kind of "special" in one or two would be interesting.  It also might be interesting to have one companion who ends up in the group because they followed you there.  (thinking of the Magnificent Seven here)

I have to admit though, I'd really like the option to get rid of companions I don't like.  Might be harder to destroy whatever it is that caused the fade to tear but it would certainly give me more options for replaying.

YES, to all 3.

For me - if they give me a psychopath, I want to be able to either kill them or send them away.

I think I'd like to see more "normal" companions, actually.  More people who feel like they have a real connection to the general populace, rather than almost all being weird foreigners and outsiders.

I think one of the reasons why it was hard to care about Kirkwall was that we hardly knew any Kirkwallers aside from Varric
