He definitely has a very practical, simplistically stark design. I can't wait to see if he has a personality that is also reserved and likes remaining faceless in a crowd, or if his appearance is in fact far different than his outgoing and projected attitude.

I'm more interested in his personality rather than his bald head, sorry.

The longer I'm on here reading comments about Bald Elf Mage, the more interested I become ... Clever move, dear BioWare ... :pinched:

Great, now I kinda feel like a judgmental, shallow asshat* for saying that I dislike the way a virtual character looks.  <_<

*moderators won't kill me for saying that, right?

I just can't understand when bald suddenly became synonymous with unattractive. I realize everybody has their own preferences, but even so, I didn't know bald was so hated by so many.

@rainbowkitty: I don't think it's not liking a character's appearance that makes someone shallow and so forth.

For me, it's when they start claiming that they are universally unattractive, implying that all character appearances should cater to their personal concept of pleasing looks. There's a huge difference between saying "I don't think that character is attractive," to, "That character is unattractive."

For that matter, it can also create this strange idea that characters only exist for their appearance. They don't, though. Humans are visual beings, but this is the negative side of it. Your accomplishments, hopes, desires, failures, past, family, and so forth don't mean anything if your physical appearance doesn't make the cut (though whose cut, nobody knows...yes I do, straight White 18-30 year old cisgender men).

i guess its still a chance for BW adding hair on his head. :) Then he is LI, and I am happy. Just tired of those pretty Anders/Kaiden-like LIs. I prefer them more...interesting and less..american pretty boy.

Regardless, much more interested in him than the other three confirmed characters.

Don´t you think people would be more positivie if he had hair?

I think so. I know I would be, and that pains me to realize it lol

I'm also much more interested in him than Cass, Viv, and Varric (well we already know Varric).

I might find the model more appealing with hair, but I'd also prefer a character with a design more true to the writer's artistic vision than a design implemented simply because some people like it better.

Ultimately, If the character is a romance, I'll probably enjoy it based on the quality of the writing. Hopefully when the game comes out more people will come around to this feeling.

Yeah, I do agree. But still. Just add hair, and people would swoon.

The fact that "hair" would add swooning is what makes this sad.  If said personality was the same, did the same actions, etc - would hair really but as effective?  His presence and what he would do for a story is what should be the driving factor of his "attraction" level, IMO.

No it's not, but what annoyed me and this is coming from my perspective on Jack from ME2 going into ME3, is that people started liking her solely based off her appearance in ME3, instead of what was behind that "look" - when she was still the same person, that's my issue.  Now since this is a new character, judging based off appearance is a perfectly valid response, unless they're coming from a place where they won't give a character a chance and dismiss the idea that they COULD be a very well done and interesting character, romance or no romance because of their look.

I don't think Elf-guy is ugly or anyting... He's just kinda... Bland... Or unfinished.

He's got this interesting armor style, but then there's just a kinda onecoloured beige blob on top.

To be honest I like the concept art better than what I see of the model.

Now the ingame model is tiny so I can't really comment well on his looks, I can barely see them... Maybe he'll look better up close.

I just hope they'll add some colour somehow... Either hair, a tattoo or really intense eyes or something, maybe glasses? Also hoping for an awesome voice and personality, but I'd still want that if he was the hottest guy in the game.

I dunno I just don't think it's a good thing to mistake a companion for a random generic npc who's just there to show off some cool clothes. Cause that's what I though that character model was before reading this thread.

I actually think this is part of what fascinates me about him right now. I, too, would have never thought the "outfit model" could be a companion ... but there it is. That's something new. It's kind of exciting to me, because if he looks so generic, there must be something else about him (at least I expect it to be so), personality- and/or storywise ... It makes me even more curious, and if something makes me curious, I tend to really like it. This elf probably going to be one of my favourite characters of DA:I just because of this controversial start. xD

Though I am begging for some hair on that elfy head, Gaider Is right to tell us not to judge a book by it's cover.

When the first images and concept arts of fenris came out, we all thought he was a mage. HAH! A MAGE! The writers were probably rolling on the floor.

There could be an explanation for his baldness, that or it is bound to be mentioned in party banter!

Either way, I support planting a hat on that head!

I'm fine with how he looks. And the more I look a the image showing him in various attires, the more I like the style of his clothes.
They look sober, practical and warm. They're something a mage on the run from his enemies would want to wear, as they don't attract much attention since they lack bright colours, and are comfortable to move in while walking/running.

Well with this group of writers, we know he's going to be well-written, and we also know he'll have a great VA; they always hire great VAs in BW games.

I agree about the blandness; damn, a tattoo would be awesome!!! I also posited the notion of a shaved head/buzzcut with some intricate designs in it. Mohawk or mohawk ponytail, as in the concept art. Look at me, telling the artists what to do

You are free to dislike how a character looks. That in no way makes you an "asshat".

My comments are directed solely at the idea that a character exists solely to be physically attractive, and that--failing to be such--they don't belong in the game. If you don't feel that way, I'm not talking about you. If you do feel that way, you're free to disregard me. Premature as such a sentiment may be, there's not exactly much information for you to go on, so speculate away.

We don't design characters based solely on how attractive people think they will be... and that's "attractive" as in "conventionally attractive", as what someone finds attractive will vary according to the individual. If we did design characters to be conventionally attractive, then every female LI would be a buxom blonde.

Whoa now, Morrigan is much more my type, and I like brunettes. :P

Wow....Interesting to see so much responses to this guy.

I guess that people for the most part don't adhere to the "don't judge a book by its cover" principle.

He is not ugly. Not even remotely.

He is not handsome however and that is perfectly fine with me. He looks plain and very down-to-earth which, after DA2's extreme companion personalities, I look forward to.

He looks interesting and I for one am interested to know him. He does not seem like a typical Circle Mage so either he is from Tevinter or a Dalish or an Apostate.

Which makes him doubly interesting.

Personally from what I have seen so far, I'd  gladly take him over Vivinenne as a frequent mage party member because he does not look to be the prideful divaish type of person, unlike Vivinenne.

notice he said "conventional" not everybody's.  The stereotypical attractive girl is usually blond to light brown hair, blue or green eyes and an hour glass figure. whether or not that is anybody's actual type isn't the point.

To be fair though, do you not tend to make most, if not all characters somewhat attractive in a certain sense, not necessarily restricted to the physical aspect, but the presence they tend to bring to the story or even as simple as to how they flow with the PC at hand.  I don't think I've ever seen an "ugly" character, in terms of companions.

Although I don't like how this guy looks without hair, I find myself more interested in him and wanting to know more about than I do about Vivienne, Cassandra or Varric.

@spiroz - I love Jack without the ponytail. I actually prefer her without, but that is also partly to do with the whole "six months, and I managed to grow an eight inch long pony". *shakes head and chuckles*. Even the whole "it's the future", just takes it out of the suspension of disbelief for me. Plus, I really do like her with the shaved head.

As for Nosfer___well, baldy elf. My only complaint in the lack of hair, IS from the fact that the little we have seen, conjures that image of Nosferatu, from my childhood. I am in my 40's (so no.....wasn't quite alive yet, when the original 1922 version of Nosferatu came out...lol!), but I grew up during a time when one of our local TV stations did Horror Saturdays (playing old horror movies from the 20's to the 50's). So this is entirely a personal issue, not an overall problem. ;) With the shape of the head (strictly from the little we have seen), the pointy ears and no hair...well....Nosferatu. :D ).

As for his backstory and personality; sky is the limit, baby! Bring it on. I have had a thing for both Zevran and Fenris, and my husband keeps suggesting he either needs to get some Spock ears, or dye his skin green (Thane fan).

Calling baldy-elf Nosferelftu just tickles my funny-bone, and is currently the image conjured due to my background. Will fully admit, some kind of hair (even something weird) would be my preference, but it is all due to the above....

Well, it's not very conventional for me. And isn't that the point here? <sarcasm> Clearly my needs outweigh everybody elses. </sarcasm>
